I quite enjoy this game honestly, even in its current state as of June 2020.

TLDR, This is worth a purchase as is, but it also has a lot of potential I'm excited about.

Pros:
+Fun combat with big ships: As much fun as tiny, nimble fighter games can be, I've always been wanting a game where I'm piloting a capital ship with a ton of cannons or lasers. Rebel Galaxy comes to mind, and seems like a good metric to compare this game to. If you enjoyed that, you will enjoy this, especially if you wanted that to have some vertical movement too.

+Controls: Felt very intuitive given what they're working with. From what I remember of the tutorial, they show you how to move forwards and backwards using the mousewheel to control engine power. Rolling with Q+E, Pitch with W+S, turning with A+D, but there's also vertical movement (Shift+Ctrl) and Lateral movement (C+Z). Aiming is done with the mouse, and doesn't feel bogged down by the orientation of the ship

+Story...Mostly. At the moment, the story is not finished. Where its at right now, I still enjoyed quite a bit. I think there's enough history baked into the world the developers are building that it feels engaging, but could also add more. Sidenote that's just me nitpicking, but every now and again a character will use Universe or Galactic interchangeably, and the astronomer in me just feels dirty thinking that. The universe is quite a bit bigger, so I think it should stay as war on a "Galactic" scale, not Universal.

Neutrals
:: Dice system. some events, storylines, and "ground" combat is resolved through dice rolls and items. Now if you're like me, you might be initially repulsed by that idea, I was not a fan of it in concept, but you're in luck. There's an option to toggle that off. That being said, I don't know how it plays without the dice rolls because the whole system actually kind of grew on me, so I left it on. Its worth a shot if you can tolerate it, you might come to enjoy it.
::Current weapons have a weird mix between feeling distninct and unique but also kind of samey. I didn't notice until about 10 hours in but there's actually identical weapons that have different qualities, in addition to different upgrade levels, AND different classes. For example, you could have a Light Plasma Cannon, a Plasma Cannon, or a Heavy Plasma Cannon. Each version feels identical, except with dps, accuracy, and range. But you could have a Light Plasma Cannon Mk 3, (Normal Quality) and it's not as good as a Light Plasma Cannon Mk 1 (Superior Quality), but how do either of those compare to the Heavy Plasma Cannon? Could use some more fleshing out or something to make it clearer.

Cons:
-Voice acting can be... rough.. in some cases. A certain "Howard Huggens" just doesn't sound like it belongs in the game. Now, this could be a victim of the games success, as the visuals and gameplay feel polished enough that I almost expect professional voice acting, but some of it just doesn't sound good. Some lines are missing altogether, but if you read the description of early access that's already made clear.
-The Story, again. I am excited to see where the story goes later, but I gotta say it feels pretty repetitive in some ways. The game will have some text during some story lines that feels kinda tongue in cheek about it, so I like the humor there too, but VAGUE SPOILER Getting betrayed after betraying a betrayer who betrayed a betrayer END VAGUE SPOILER. Still, story is an overall plus.

Longest review I've ever written, hope this helps someone make a decision. I think the game is worth it as is, but if it becomes what the developers want it'll be one of my favorites I think.

My Review:

I standby most, if not all of what he has said. I will say this, The game is ABSOLUTELY worth a buy, because it is, even though its Early Access, an Incredible game. Which only speaks well about how it will be after Full Release. I 100% Recommend it.

Great Game, however it refuses to start up after i reinstalled it after not playing it for 4 years. It starts, but doesnt even popup. The icon on my task bar is there, but after a few minutes it crashes and doesnt work. Any ideas or fixes for this would be greatly appreciated.

It's a great game, MAJOR potential. But i'm going to over the reason why i'm making my review negative instead of positive:

1. Cheating/Modding Software - These programs either don't work, or they are non existent. Mods exist, but there is no "Modding-for-dummies" or "Do-it-for-me" methods of installing mods and making them work properly. You have to MANUALLY install each mod by fiddling with the games files, which is EXTREMELY dangerous this early into release. Hopefully over the course of a few months we'll see some changes to this, but for now my review is negative.

2. Missions - They are... very repetitive. What i mean by that is there's a MAJOR HUGE lackof variety compared to that of other X games. And that's very disappointing.

3. Faction Interactions- This is going to be a 3 or more parter.

a. In order to get a license from a faction, whether its for trading, buying ships, etc, you have to build a relationship with that faction. And i am PERFECTLY fine with that way of doing things, except that in order to get to a decent rep with them you have to do like 20+ missions because sometimes things go wrong, or you run out of time, etc. And even if you complete those missions, the increase in reputation is very poor, ESPECIALLY for those missions in the millions. IF i'm doing a mission thats worth 1 MIL+, that means the mission was incredibly, near impossible to finish without the right ships, etc. So i think the Rep oyu gain from those types of missions should be more substantial than they are currently.

b. Faction Wars, i have seen, nor heard of any and i'm decently into the game. The AI Empires go around building in their sectors already under their control, but i never hear anything, or see anything on my map about one faction taking over another factions territory. I have also looked around other players, they say the same thing and their over 15 hours into the game and have heard or seen nothing. So, that needs to be changed.

c. Faction to Faction Interaction, i have also checked on this the same way i did for Faction Wars, i have not gotten an alert or anything regarding how the factions are currently interacting with each other. Whether they are at war, currently on a Non-aggression pact, Trading between each other, or if one faction has wiped out another. This needs to be changed.

4. Player Empire - Another multiparter:

a. Making an Empire - So far, i personally haven't done this yet. But, i looked around because its something i eventually want to do. Everyone says that it's not working the way it should, Factions aren't responding to the Player creating a faction and retaliating, even if your on the WORST of terms with one in particular faction, NO MOVES ARE BEING MADE.

b. Trading - The trading system from what i can tell works, but i t could be improved. I feel like my ships should need an escort from Pirates or Raiders to ensure my trading fleet, or in this case players trading fleets reach their destinations with as few casualties and loss of profit as possible. So far the AI does nothing about player Trading ships and convoys, doesnt raid them, you might encounter the occasional small 2 fighter patrol, but from what i saw on youtube, that's about it. Needs to change.

Listen, i could go on and on about these problems, and there are certainly many. But, if your honestly curious about the amount of problems this game is currently facing, GO TO YOUTUBE, that's where i found out about most of this stuff, and partly from personal experience. DEVS if your reading this, check back with YouTube at the end of every week and you will find a slew of problems to fix, and people showing you specifically how, where, and when they occur. I'm tired and have work tomorrow, so that's my answer to this game.

I'm allowing coments because i think people may be able to add to my review in various ways. Goodluck.

For low-end PC's it's almost impossible to play. But for high-end PC's i bet it's amazing. Honestly, it looks great, and from what i could get, it was fun. So play it at your own risk, but depending on your PC, don't expect too much or too little.
