On paper this is a game I would hate. In practice this is a game that I spend 12 hours on and neglect sleep for. 10/10 would feel terrible for work again.

Phenomenal game. It scratches the old Guitar Hero itch and has a decently large collection of songs.

The only issue I have with the game is as follows:
After mastering XD there's little to do to improve. There are a wide selection of custom songs but most are extremely difficult to jump into even knowing XD very well. You can play the songs in practice mode at 120% speed though, which is a fun challenge. Although to enter practice mode you have to fail the song first, which is a bit annoying.

Other than that the game is an absolute blast with a phenomenal sound track. More songs are often added for free and there's an upcoming revamp of some XD charts which is exciting.

My game of the year. If you like rhythm games this is a must have.

Bungie has been finding new and exciting ways to nickle and dime players this year. To play current content you will have to own either Lightfall ($50) or Lightfall Deluxe ($100). Buying Lightfall ($50) only includes the campaign. Separately you will need to purchase the Dungeon Pass ($20) and seasons (four per expansion, $12 each, deleted when the next expansion is released). Though to purchase seasons you will need to buy through the in game MTX store which only sells premium currency in multiples of $5, meaning you will need to spend $15 to buy a season. The left over silver is not enough to purchase anything else of value. Also by not purchasing the Deluxe edition; the "Quicksilver Storm" exotic auto rifle will be completely unobtainable.

Bungie has also started selling cosmetic armor "shaders" for real money that previously were either obtainable in game or through an earnable currency.

Bungie stated in their weekly update months ago that we will be seeing yearly armor refreshes for vendors-- though almost four months later that promise has been unfulfilled. However, they seem to have no issue creating three $15 armor cosmetics per season.

Server stability has been a hot topic recently. With Bungie taking the game down for emergency maintenance more times in the last four months than they have ever before. It's not uncommon to be disconnected from the game world multiple times a play session. God forbid it happens during a PVP match and the game gives a 30 minute matchmaking suspension, or near the end of an activity before the loot drops.

New players will be struggling to catch up whether or not they own seasons as previous seasonal weapons are almost all unobtainable and very much still in the meta.

Players wishing to play previous content will have to purchase the Forsaken Pack, Shadowkeep, Beyond Light (necessary to unlock and use the "Stasis" subclass), 30th Anniversary, and/or The Witch Queen.

I am hard pressed to recommend this game to any new player. The gameplay, lore, and the content itself is enjoyable, though the price to entry, convoluted game systems and poor new player experience are too damning. Bungie seems to have their "C-Team" working on Destiny 2 while they're developing Marathon and are trying to milk Destiny 2 for all its worth. My clan and I used to be on Destiny every single day. Some of us haven't touched the game in months now. This review isn't coming from a place of malice, we all still love the game to death. We wish for it to be treated better than how it has been.

Don't let the "Free to Play" tag fool you, this game will happily clean out your wallet.
