I'm Russian and I will help you. Can't you all notice that in the very smiley there are three parts: 1) eyes, 2) nose, 3) smile. Look at the example :-),

Now, if you remove the unnecessary eyes, remove the nose - why do I need to send someone a nose?, youll have only the smile.
And that is what I need. I need the person I communicate with to see my smile, not the whole face. Why do I need to break my fingers searching for all those THREE symbols - the eyes, the nose and the smil, if I can send just ONE.
The smile is my intention, so I send just the smile. The smile is the symbol to show Im smiling or laughing.
And the more of )))) there are, the more I laugh. So, the more )))))))))) I send you, the more I laugh. And when I laugh hysterically, there will be a long raw of them ))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
