I'll just get this out of the way: If you really want to play it, go ahead. The problem, to me, is that the greatness of it all starts to fade the longer you play.

To put it shortly:
* 'Penumbra: Necrologue' does a great job recreating the atmosphere from the series, but it's mostly wasted by wandering around the original maps way too often (starts making the whole world feel more realistically connected, ends up making you think the devs were getting lazy).
* Uninspired and simplistic plot with too many retcons that lead nowhere. You basically try to reunite with Amabel (whose death was retconned) until you don't. Afterwards you completely forget about it and then shit just happens. Also, Clarence and (to some degree) Red are back.
* The endings are alright. One of them is somewhat fitting, while the other two are surprisingly happier (if you forget that you left Amabel behind).
* 'Twilight of the Archaic' takes everything that I didn't like about 'Necrologue' and turns it up to eleven.

Overall, it's a well made, atmospheric mod with (too many) callbacks to the previous episodes of the series that ends up falling flat. At least it washed away the aftertaste of 'Requiem'.

Nostalgia aside, this game succeds in everything it does. It captures the 80's atmosfere surprisingly well, the soundtrack is amazing, the voice acting still manages to immerse you into the game and it's a noticeable improvement compared to Grand Theft Auto III (which I didn't enjoy very much, don't hurt me).

It may feel aged, specially after coming back from playing V (like me), but it's still as fun as the first time I played it all those years ago.

Very short, very simple but with an interesting idea.

It's easy to notice how much work and effort went into making this mod. The graphics are improved and the sountrack it's very fitting, but the gameplay wins the prize. The new mechanics work really well and helps a lot setting the mood. It managed to make the simplest enemy in the Half-Life series a little more unsettling and the Gravity Concussion Gun brought a whole new set of interesting puzzles and combat scenarios to the table. The final battle was pretty entertaining and the destroyable stage only made it better. My only issues are the very short length and the lack of optimization, but this is still one of the best mods out there.

A must play for the fans of the series.

This ♥♥♥king game. I love this game so much I constantly jump through the flaming hoops the higher ups at Starbreeze keep throwing at me. The Hype Train, Crimefest 2015, the microtransactions, them going back on their promises of no more paid DLCs, the Epic network. So much shit thrown my way. I'd only do it all for ♥♥♥king Payday 2. These devs are so lucky to have made one of my top ten favorite games of all time. Hell, maybe even top 5. I'm not sure if I'd do the same for Payday 3. Or any other game, really. Let's try not to test the playerbase's patience again (again), alright?

Anyways, the game. It's really REALLY fun co-op shooter. Tons of weapons, modifications, heists, skills, outfits, masks, cosmetics, you name it. Incredibly entertaining gunplay and beyond amazing soundtrack (Simon Viklund, Carl Noren, Gustavo Coutinho and other special guests not only made this game worth coming back to, but made it so that it never fully left my head in about eight years). It's really interesting how a whole decade of updates lead this rather meh shooter into something both bizarre and beautiful that I'll treasure forever. And thank GOD for the amazing modding community this game has. This game (and Starbreeze) wouldn't be still standing if it weren't for them.

1500 hours and counting. Yeah, Payday 2 was worth the price.

Let's see...

Pros:
+ Overall great level design
+ Most bugs from Hotline Miami 1 were fixed (that actually impressed me)
+ Fairly interesting new gameplay mechanics
+ Great soundtrack (I don't think it's better than the first one but a few songs grew on me)
+ P-plot? PLOT??
+ Longer than the original
+ Of course they made hard mode, and it's actually hard
+ The beard guy as a playable character

Cons:
- Some levels present flaws in its designs (you are forced to proceed in a certain manner to progress trough some areas instead of giving the player freedom to plan it's strategy)
- While most bugs have been removed, the couple that remains are very annoying (like being unable to hit certain enemies while they are stuck in a door, or flawed pathfinding making some enemies walk out of the stage)

It's more of the same with a few tweaks to keep it interesting. I can't talk about the level editor since I haven't been able to use it, but the game in itself it's really amazing.
Do I recommend it? Fuck yes, I do.

I decided to play this shit while I farmed whatever chrome it could give me. Why? I don't know. I asked god and he never answered. I understand though, I'd be ashamed of this game too. I made it until the giant mutant giraffe shooting pupils as some freak yelled at a microphone and called it a "boss theme song".

Meteorites, LSD and religion just don't fit together.
At least I have my three chromes.
