8 years on from original release, the much praised classic fails to impress. The basic mechanics are serviceable, but everything else feels like a chore.

Even Michael Mando's compelling Vaas doesn't elevate it much. He's not in it near enough to do so.

Don't Escape 1 is a relatively interesting twist on the escape room, locking yourself up.

Don't Escape 2 expands on that with multiple locations.

Both of these explain the entire plot in the intro.

Don't Escape 3 expands into a real adventure game and is the standout of the package. Trapped on a spaceship, you can uncover the mystery of why everyone else is dead. Short and sweet.

The release of anniversary edition has reinvigorated an online that was super fun. It's good to be back at it.

A great DLC for a masterpiece of a game. It only falls short of the originals greatness due to a smaller scope and a particularly frustrating mechanic in the middle to late parts.

But the charm, the environmental storytelling, and the puzzles, they're all here. And it's worth it.

It's possible to overdesign a game. This game took a fun foundation of Doom 2016 and decided to tack on juggling enemy weaknesses and cooldowns. You're not using a gun because it's fun, you're using it because this enemy explodes when you use it. Or it disables that attack. Or because the enemy is literally invincible unless you're in medium range and doing heavy damage when there's a green light.

It's hard to hate because of a fun core. But it's impossible to really enjoy because that apparently wasn't enough.

Not a exceptionally original game in any way. But the mechanics are solid, the puzzles require thought without frustration, and the humor hits. Boy does it hit.

Very possibly the best game of its type since Portal 2. And I really want to see what these folks do next.

It has plenty of charm and humor. These are sadly completely overshadowed by the tedium and unbearable randomness of its dungeon section.

9 years ago the Mass Effect trilogy ended. And, at the time, I thought it ended as a miserable dumpster fire that only occasionally has some greatness.

Some emotional distance, some DLC, and with new improvements from this Legendary Edition, I can finally be proud to be a fan. Mass Effect 1 is no longer a game I simply power through to set up imports. Mass Effect 2 is no longer the only game I truly enjoy. And Mass Effect 3 is finally a great game in its own right, no longer nothing more than it's misstep of an ending.

If you like Space Opera, if you like adventuring, being a badass space cop who plays by his own rules, if you like romancing the blue aliens, the purple aliens, the spiky chitinous aliens, if you like befriending robots. Then that's what this game is all about. And it's the best you'll find.

Perhaps the greatest game for exploration on Steam.

Aside from an obnoxious headwobble, it holds up 14 years later. The shooting is fun, the world is interesting. My playthrough time of 15 hours is from focusing on the main quest and just running it through. But there's plenty to do on the side if you don't mind procedural fetch quests.
