For me personally this game was a disappointment and would sit very low in my ranking of From Software games. I am one of those broken people who enjoy exploring the world and trying to find stuff. But Elden Ring just got tiresome after a while and the world isn't as great as people hype it up to be.

With previous From Software games I would finish a playthrough and then usually either continue onwards into NG+ and NG++ or just start with a fresh new character.

But with Elden Ring on the other hand I couldn't even finish my first playthrough. I took one of those breaks where you tell yourself that you would surely return soon and finish the bloody thing but I never did. Instead I made another playthrough of Dragon's Dogma, realized that I didn't care for Elden Ring anymore and that DD1 is so much better and never looked back.

Now, what to do? Does this warrant a thumbs down? From my point of view it does but on the other hand Elden Ring is clearly a well made game with a lot of great content. It just isn't for me and I hope that From Software will come to their senses and abandon open worlds and go back to their previous formula.

Bloodborne is still their best game and it isn't even close.

Oh well fine, here, have your recommendation...

So far I only finished the main story and arrived in the post-game but then decided to take a break until the (promised) performance patch would arrive. Which hasn't happened yet. :-/

I liked the game a lot but Dragon's Dogma 1 with its addon is still clearly the better game and that's without even looking at the additional addon content. Also DD1 runs even on a toaster in 4K/60 FPS and still looks quite decent. DD2 on the other hand desperately needs a performance patch.

But the main problem that DD2 has is that its world is too big which makes a playthrough a lot longer than it needs to be. At least for people like me who enjoy exploring all the content and quests. The world of DD1 is tighter and therefore a lot more intimate which results in a shorter playthrough which in turn makes NG+ quite enjoyable.

It's basically the same as with Elden Ring vs. older From Software games and why I didn't even finish that bloody game. I don't get why developers feel the need to bloat up their games when their older titles were clearly better.

Anyways, DD2 is good and I prefer it over a game like Elden Ring any day but it is clearly not where it should be and still needs a bit of work and something like the Dark Arisen addon from DD1.

The game has of course aged but it's still pretty good.

The AD&D 2nd Edition ruleset on the other hand sucks as much today as it did when it was released 30 years ago and I am glad that we don't have to suffer through it anymore in new games.

Played it with two mods (mostly for convenience options and base rule tweaks): Sword Coast Stratagems & The Tweaks Anthology

It's fine. I don't know why people are so down about it. There were only two things that I didn't like all that much:

- I would have preferred the game to be a bit more "road movie" style, meaning more linear and less optional content. This might sound like a contradiction but the game sits between two huge games and I'd say most people play it more to see the story and to continue their journey towards BG2.

- While the lead up through the story and towards the final chapter was pretty well done the conclusion was quite weak.

I have been playing RPGs since Ultima III on the C64 and this is one of the best RPGs of the last... well, ever.

The game is alright but I am done with it. The first hours are fun but after a while the combat just turns into a slog. The enemies have way too many abilities which might make the fights more realistic but it also drags them down way too much as well.

Wait for a sale.

I love the first game but for whatever reason this one does nothing for me. It seems alright, just not for me.

(You can add 770 hours on PS4 to my playtime.)

Probably the only MMORPG worth playing these days. An amazing game for countless reasons, but to just name three: It has a better story than a lot of singleplayer RPGs, it plays flawlessly with controller and the developers actually genuinely seem to care about their game and don't see their playerbase as a resource to exploit with disgusting game mechanics.

All around one of the most wholesome games I ever played.

Highly recommened. I have never been one of those people who hyped themselves up into oblivion only to get disappointed and angry, so I don't really care too much about the games history. Only thing I care about is how the developers supported their game over the years, fixed all issues, released tons of content for free and turned the game into something truly amazing.
