TL;DR

This game is EASILY "game of the decade."

This game is a labor of love and it is as much of an experience or series of experiences as much as it is a game. It is hard to describe the depth DnD has as a TTRPG, but finding anything near that depth is impossible in a video game, until Baldur's Gate 3. Skyrim is very close, but it came out over a decade ago, and every single non-mmo RPG title in even a remotely similar genre that has released before or since has not even come close to how much this game has to offer in the realms of story-telling, personality of characters, consequences of actions, and combat combinations of BG3.

It's no secret that you have to play through a game like this multiple times to experience everything, and I'd go as far to say that coupled with the origin characters and the subsequent paths you can take with each, you'd have to play through this game nearly 9 different times, just to get perhaps 70% of the story/interaction content.

You can tell that the Larian devs love this achievement of a game as much or even more than the players that can't put the game down without craving to get back in. I play actual dnd with friends on Fridays and just want to get back into BG3 and fix Karlach's heart or battle through the Underdark, or play a new class combination or find out what the deal is with the tadpoles. It's rare for this to happen to me. The Witcher 3 was the last game I played that was even near the same level of what my brain was focusing on when it was supposed to be at work or asleep.

The fact that none of the real content is locked away behind a pay wall beyond just the initial purchase, and that mods will be a thing revitalizing an already dedicated and flourishishing community, will go to show the rest of the RPG development studios across the globe that you can make a beautiful masterpiece and make a lot of money doing it without the need of cheap money grabbing tricks that dull the experience.

This game will stand the test of time, more so than BG1 and BG2, more so than Divinity 1 and 2, and will hopefully be the tipping point we have so drastically needed for getting game devs to make what both they and we deserve without the boot of corporate micromanagement cheapening the value of what is the gaming experience.
