The best colony management game available. While even the vanilla game is excellent, Rimworld has one of the best and most active modding communities on steam, for a game that is extremely mod-friendly and is not impacted by large modlists at a debilitating level. Consistent development. What's not to love?

I died at least 40 times to the Abyss Watchers, at least 30 to the Old Demon, at least 20 to the Dancer, and who knows how many other times to various other bosses. In a sense, you'll probably have to grind at least a little to get good at this game and truly enjoy it. That being said, the "grinding" is simultaneously infuriating, addictive, and ultimately so, so fun. Through all those deaths I listed, I returned almost immediately to continue learning and improving. You're not alone: other people can help or hurt you, and this adds another interesting and immersive layer to this game. If you like fantasy games oriented towards combat, then this is a must play.

The remastered version has brought life to a game I thought was totally and unfairly forgotten. The graphics are modernized and look excellent compared to the blocky, late 90's capability of the original. The maps and environments are prettier and brighter. It has a couple of issues that remain from the original, as well as a few new ones caused by who knows what, but it is definitely a much apppreciated remaster of the (IMO) progenitor of FPS/RTS games that deserves a buy. My nostalgia didnt lie to me - it still feels as fun as it did when I played the original.

Early Access Review
The game is very good, and shows a lot of potential. However, it IS an Early Access game, and there are of course some issues in gameplay balance and other areas, namely in how unreasonably difficult the game can be to control. The 2 games I can most relate to are Banished, and Dwarf Fortress - though it clearly distinguishes itself from both of these.

The game itself is very challenging on its own terms, in a way that inspires you to continue learning and strategizing despite many failed attempts. The gameplay is very fluid (though the framerate sometimes isn't) and is structured very intuitively.
My other thoughts on this game so far are as follows:

+I love what there is of the soundtrack so far, somewhat reminds me of Runescape.
+Love the interactive Main menu
+The visuals of the game are so crisp and well designed, but I wish you could zoom out a little more, and zooming in as much as is available just hurts my eyes.
+Lots of variety in maps so far, but I wonder if there will be more - or even procedural generation.
+The map editor is excellent.
-----------
-It would make sense to lower temperature in rain and at night, and to let seasons affect gameplay differently depending on the area climate (ex. summer is hotter in the desert, not as bad in the tundra or mild areas)
-The villager info panel needs to be better. When looking at the only panel that lists all villagers, I can't tell hardly anything about any of them besides their level. Seeing any other information about them on that panel would be incrediblly useful, as would be the ability to sort them differently or click their names as links in alerts.
-Children (though they are agood game mechanic) currently make understanding your population difficult.
-Some god powers are difficult and/or confusing to use.
-It is very difficult and frustrating to attempt to navigate combat, or any other situation where a large amount of villagers and/or other creatures are stacked on top of one another - it's so hard to have an actual grasp on how the fighting is going, or if a villager needs healing because you it's so difficult to select them in the chaos.
-I really wish I there was an option to disable the screen shaking so constantly.
-----------
That's all I've thought up for now, but I'll try and keep this relatively updated.

Boo. This game has seen none of the promised progress that it's potential promised. It has stayed the same boring time-waster that it started as. Do not buy.

I definitely recommend it - incredible storytelling, unique narration, suprisingly customizable gameplay with the different weapons and such. It feels like you are creating the story as you continue. It also has a few decisions that change the path of the game and add some replayability.
