Ok, this has been driving me crazy for seven movies now, and I know you're going to roll your eyes, but hear me out: Harry Potter should have carried a 1911.

Here's why:

Think about how quickly the entire WWWIII (Wizarding-World War III) would have ended if all of the good guys had simply armed up with good ol' American hot lead.

Basilisk? Let's see how tough it is when you shoot it with a .470 Nitro Express. Worried about its Medusa-gaze? Wear night vision goggles. The image is light-amplified and re-transmitted to your eyes. You aren't looking at it--you're looking at a picture of it.

Imagine how epic the first movie would be if Harry had put a breeching charge on the bathroom wall, flash-banged the hole, and then went in wearing NVGs and a Kevlar-weave stab-vest, carrying a SPAS-12.

And have you noticed that only Europe seems to have a problem with Deatheaters? Maybe it's because Americans have spent the last 200 years shooting deer, playing GTA: Vice City, and keeping an eye out for black helicopters over their compounds. Meanwhile, Brits have been cutting their steaks with spoons. Remember: gun-control means that Voldemort wins. God made wizards and God made muggles, but Samuel Colt made them equal.

Now I know what you're going to say: "But a wizard could just disarm someone with a gun!" Yeah, well they can also disarm someone with a wand (as they do many times throughout the books/movies). But which is faster: saying a spell or pulling a trigger?

Avada Kedavra, meet Avtomat Kalashnikova.

Imagine Harry out in the woods, wearing his invisibility cloak, carrying a .50bmg Barrett, turning Deatheaters into pink mist, scratching a lightning bolt into his rifle stock for each kill. I don't think Madam Pomfrey has any spells that can scrape your brains off of the trees and put you back together after something like that. Voldemort's wand may be 13.5 inches with a Phoenix-feather core, but Harry's would be 0.50 inches with a tungsten core. Let's see Voldy wave his at 3,000 feet per second. Better hope you have some Essence of Dittany for that sucking chest wound.

I can see it now...Voldemort roaring with evil laughter and boasting to Harry that he can't be killed, since he is protected by seven Horcruxes, only to have Harry give a crooked grin, flick his cigarette butt away, and deliver what would easily be the best one-liner in the entire series:

"Well then I guess it's a good thing my 1911 holds 7+1."

And that is why Harry Potter should have carried a 1911.

The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

This is my favorite story told in any medium of fiction.
You play as a young boy named Nier, who at the start of the game is roughly 16 years old. The world is in chaos - monsters and plague afflict the world Nier inhabits. In 2004 a calamity befell the world in it's 21st century. In the timeline of the game, it is 3465. Language has changed - English is a dead language, not to dissimilar to Latin. The world has been reset back to square one. Due to the calamity that destroyed centuries of technological advancements - the world is closest to the early modern era of human history - although there are remnants of the lost civilization that spread the lands. and in place of technology - magic now exists due to the calamity.

The music in the game is incredibly beautiful - and although spoken dialogue is heard in English, the music that plays in the game is the language that is spoken in the lands Nier inhabits. The writer - Yoko Taro - thought about what language would be spoken this far in the future - and it is an amalgamation of other languages.

Nier is an incredible kind young boy, but his sister is terminally ill - they are orphaned and Nier is the only one who can provide for the both of each-other. Nier struggles to make money taking any job he possibly can, and the villagers - even in the hell they live - care for the siblings and try to provide for them. Although not for long, the world is winding down and progressively becomes worse and worse - most die from the plague, and survivors get rampaged by monsters.

Nier becomes a mercenary half way through the game - a time skip occurs and resumes as Nier at the age of 21. Jaded from the wars, plague, monsters, and the loss of his sister - he no longer cares about anything except the party he leads and the destruction of monsters. Through Nier's complete ignorance of the world and the language the monsters speak - he ends up making the lives of those who he originally sought to protect and care for, far worse. Nier, being the kind man he is, wishes to save those he comes across, but there is absolutely no way for him to know that what he is doing is the complete opposite of what he intends. And that is the complete beauty of this story's main theme of "the road to hell is paved with good intentions".

The original concept for Nier was deeply influenced by the horrifying events of the World Trade Center incident 9/11. And the events that proceeded it.

Originally posted by Yoko Taro:
"9-11 was an unfortunate event that triggered out of a situation where both sides believed they were doing the right thing. The question is, what did they see from their point-of-view? What does it look like from each other’s perspectives? These were the thoughts that went through my head when writing Nier."

Though you may first see yourself as a hero as Nier, upon closer inspection - on the second playthrough - the perspective changes completely. This story is a real treat to those who go in blind. Enjoy.

3 years later... It's finally on PC. Cloud saves, Achievements, and Steam Deck support is really nice.

Alice is a super hot, mentally ill murder machine. Alice is still more mentally stable and less evil than Amber Heard.
