Just by looking at this game you ought to know already whether you'll like it or not. This is exactly what it looks like: a fun, cheap, very replayable classic survival horror game love letter.

I got this for $4 and it still wasn't worth the money. An absolute travesty of a follow up to F.E.A.R. 1.

Early Access Review
This is not that bad a game. Maybe a good 7 or 8/10. Get some friends together, do roguelike ♥♥♥♥, generally have a good time. It's lacking in content, but early access, so whatever. HOWEVER, the devs clearly still haven't learned that 3d platforming almost universally sucks. Furthermore, they are aggressively terrible at making platforming sections. I imagine they're doing it for variety, but it's actively the worst part of the game. Please stop wasting my time with aggressively ♥♥♥♥, pixel perfect, platforming sections, and let me get back to shooting things.

This game's a 9.5 out of 10 easy. The combat is so much more intense, exciting, and deep than anything else on the market, and the music is the perfect compliment to get your heart racing every time you step into a combat arena. There are a couple hiccups, but nothing that could ruin the game. Except for adding an unnecessary anti-cheat 2 months after launch that renders the game unplayable for many of the people that paid good money for it. Not cool, to say the least.

Editing this review in post, because ID has decided to course correct by removing Denuvo Anti-Cheat. Well done ID.

To save our mother Earth from any alien attack
From vicious giant insects who have once again come back
We'll unleash all our forces
We won't cut them any slack
The E.D.F deploys!

Our soilders are prepared for any alien threats
The Navy launches ships, the Air Force sends their jets
And nothing can withstand our fixed bayonets
THE E.D.F DEPLOYS!

Our forces have now dwindled and we pull back to regroup,
The enemy has multiplied and formed a massive group,
We better beat these bugs before we're all turned to soup,
The EDF deploys!

EDF is pretty good.

This is what a perfectly designed game looks like. Every little thing you do, from the items you carry, the routes you take, and the way you deal with enemies is a meaningful and complex decision. The items are perfectly placed to keep you from feeling safe, the puzzles are fun but not too challenging, the exploration is engaging, and the action is important. The atmosphere is perfect, with great camera angles that draw your eye, set the mood, and hide enemies just around the corner. I have never played a more immersive game. I rarely find the energy to replay games I've already beaten, but here I am doing my third run through this iconic mansion. The only thing I find wanting is that the map doesn't tell you which keys are needed for which door, leading to a lot of needless checking. Of course, that's only a tiny gripe.
