I know some people aren't huge fans of the Infantry Combat Overhaul, but this is the most fun I've ever had in Squad. Fights last significantly longer, teamwork is encouraged, and combat is intense and immersive. Ignore the people crying about how "tHiS iSn'T tHe GaMe I pAiD fOr!!!11!!1!"

There has never been a better time to get into Squad.

Decent free FPS heavily inspired by CoD, but the gunplay is easily the sloppiest I have ever felt (front and back iron sights don't line up during ADS on some guns, there is a weird amount of sway/leading, etc.). If the guns felt crisp and clean, I could definitely see this becoming a mainstay (it's pretty good otherwise, especially for the install size), but right now, it just feels weird. I would guess the developers don't shoot firearms very often, so getting the animators some weapons handling training would benefit this game greatly.

Early Access Review
Operation: Harsh Doorstop can be summed up in one word:

Potential

As such, I'm recommending this game with a very big caveat. It needs to be clear, the game is not good right now. It's a slog of bugs, bad performance, and awkward gameplay loops that, frankly, I think was released too early. However, it's built on a strong foundation and the developer has displayed vision and passion for the project, so I believe they can succeed. As such, I'm recommending the idea of this game, not the current iteration. It all comes down to execution. If the developers continue pawning off the responsibility of fixing/improving the game to the workshop modders, this project will fail. There simply isn't enough here right now for it to succeed without developer help. But, if they hunker down and focus on making this game everything it so badly wants to become, then it will succeed and could potentially even become a household name. That requires vision, direction, and execution though. There is no substitute.

First off, I love that it has so many eras and conflicts. That alone is what makes this game stand out as something special. The fact that I can play a WW1 trench battle with bolt-action rifles then turn around and fight in a modern battle with automatic assault rifles the next is awesome. It's something that not even AAA companies have been able to pull off well, and this game is already delivering on that front. The gunplay is decent, the graphics are solid, and the maps are pretty nice as well. However, the polish just is not there yet. Movement is clunky, hitboxes are genuinely the worst I have ever seen in any game ever, the UI and objectives aren't clear, TTK is too slow for the type of game it's trying to be (yes, slow, not fast), and there is literally no anti-cheat at all (a responsibility that 100% falls on the devs, not the workshop modders). It feels like it's trying to be a realistic, large-scale, long-range warfare game like HLL and Squad, but is too afraid to commit to that vision. This is a shame because it has all the ingredients to be a worthy competitor for both, but it just needs more time in the oven. If it commits and executes, it will succeed. That future is what I recommend, not the game in its current state.

TL;DR The concept for Operation: Harsh Doorstop is great and deserves to be supported, but the execution is very poor right now. The game is free and uses a monetization system that absolutely deserves to be commended, so I would recommend you try it out, but don't expect a fully polished game for a while. Come back in a year and base your opinion off of that, not the current state of the game.

Pros
It's Blackjack. It's fun, it's relaxing, and you won't go bankrupt if you get a bad hand in this game. If you enjoyed Poker Championship from this developer, you will probably like Blackjack Championship as well.

Cons
The narrator gets insanely annoying pretty quickly, and there is no way I could find to turn it off as far as I can tell. Once they add an option to disable narrator, I'll change the review to positive, but as of right now, that particular detail is far too annoying to ignore. I'm not sure why they even added it as a mandatory feature in the first place, seeing as it isn't even present in Poker Championship. Also, the only way to link your account between PC and mobile is via Facebook, so take that for what it's worth. Account linking is completely optional, and not doing so won't negatively affect your gameplay experience in any way, I just thought it was worth mentioning for those that try to avoid Facebook when possible.

Notes
Unlike many of the other reviewers, I do actually believe the cards are fairly dealt. the developer puts active effort into responding to reviewers that are concerned about fairness with an explanation of how their RNG works, and iTech Labs[itechlabs.com], the company that issues the fair dealing certification, appears to be legitimate (based in Australia, has 100-200 employees, attends industry conventions, works with a large number of separate gaming companies). Obviously, I can't guarantee there's no foul play, but I haven't personally found anything suspicious enough to start raising red flags. Maybe you guys just need to stop splitting 10s ;)

Right now, there is a major bug where you will literally spawn in with no gun. Like at all. You will be holding air.

In an FPS.

Now that I think of it, it would be more accurately called an FP right now because THERE'S NO WAY TO SHOOT!!! And this is not an isolated event either. In my very first lobby (and every single lobby I have attempted to join since), there were numerous other people experiencing the same issue.

If they fix it, I'd be down to give it a real review, but come on, guys. If I can't even access the absolute most basic gameplay function of a shooter game, monetization should not be available. Like, seriously, I can't even click, guys...

This games delivers on how The Complete Saga felt in your head as a kid. I genuinely cannot recommend this game enough.

It's a short, free, fun puzzle game with enjoyable writing and fantastic character design. If there's ever been a game worth an hour of your time, it's this one!

When Prepare to Die was released, they charged $20 for a game that was broken/unplayable on release then relied on the community to mod their game to the point of playability (eg. not instantly crashing, not being capped to 720p 30fps, etc.). After continuing to sell a broken product for years, they copied those community fixes into a new game, marginally improved graphics, and re-released it as a *Remastered Edition* while charging another $40. The game should have been playable on the first release, the game should not have been capped to 720p 30fps in the original release. The modifications they are charging an additional $40 for are what should have been the bare minimum product the first time around. There are glaring bugs (eg. controller not being recognized at all, a plethora of new bugs being introduced, etc.) Don't support this kind of cash-grabbing behavior. Buy a different game.

One of the only games where a completely empty room can be a fun, challenging puzzle.
