I appreciate what this game does, but not my style.

My buddies have gotten a lot of play from this game!
While it doesn't have as many heroes as most other MOBA titles (eg League of Legends, DOTA 2, Heroes of Newerth), it offers a good variety of maps.

Thankfully, not just "more of the same"!
The new missions successfully shake up existing strategies, at least on the first playthrough. The enemy waves are also more challenging - definitely not DLC for beginning players.

In a genre that's become saturated with "me too" clones, Defense Grid brings a few innovative ideas to the Tower Defense crowd.
Unlike most other TD games, the object is not to prevent the baddies from running from point A to point B. Instead, the baddies are trying to run into the heart of your base, grab a "core", and escape. You have a limited number of cores, and you can kill any beastie that has stolen one. The cores gradually float back to where they belong, but they can be intercepted by the invaders. This adds a tactical layer to the gameplay - you might not want to kill a carrier right away if it means another baddie will grab it and try to escape.
The game isn't perfect - it feels a bit sterile and I wish there were better feedback on damage done to the invaders - but easily worth the asking price for anyone looking for a good Tower Defense game.

Turn-based strategy, with an emphasis on tactical positioning over grand strategy.
Plan your moves, telling your units where to move, where to aim, and where to hide - while your opponent does the same with his team! And then watch your two plans collide in 5-second bursts (with the option to change your plans after each burst).
A fantastic game of cat-and-mouse as both players try to outwit one another.

Officially classified as a "Tower Defense" game, just like PopCap's Bejeweled is a "Puzzle" game. And like Bejeweled, PvZ is incredibly polished, has an assortment of variations, and is enjoyable by anyone.
I can't recommend Plants vs.Zombies highly enough.
