I really hate to do this, but suits only speak one language

Sony recently began enforcing the requirement of using a PSN account to play the game, this would be fine, as many other games do this across different platforms. Unfortunately, in this case, it means Helldivers who may already have purchased the game can no longer play across 177 regions due to Sony's decision to enforce account creation.

Let me be clear, none of this is fault of the developers at Arrowhead, they have done an amazing job listening to the community and providing players with a great multiplayer experience. They have stated that there isn't much they can do in the face of Sony's decision but to try and convince them to walk back the account requirement.

TL;DR: Sony killed their golden goose (restricting purchase/play in 177 regions) the devs oppose the decision, being loud is the only way we can hope to reverse it.

Impossible to play without paying.

Gameplay is fun. However I presume until Season 1 this is literally just "early access to level up your guns before actual features release" So beware of quite a few missing COD features such as barracks and career challenges. If these basic features don't get added with Season 1 then I'll be changing my review to negative.

Edit: Season 1 is out, and it seems the features mentioned before have made it into the game.

Finished the game in one sitting on day of release, now I don't have much to do until people make release mods T_T

Story: The story is pretty short, and a good chunk of it is actually unlocking avatars to switch between, which is really unfortunate because its really fun when you have the freedom to switch between them, but all of it was still a blast.

Graphics: Graphics are a huge step up from Boneworks, the dynamic lighting fascinated me in the prologue.

Gameplay: The gameplay is really fun, especially since you are now encouraged to use guns more rather than save as much ammo as possible for vending machines at the end of the game. (or any part of the game for that matter) Your weapons are also saved between levels which is kinda nice. Switching between avatars is really fun, switching to the heavy avatar and ♥♥♥♥♥ slapping enemies out of existence will never get old.

Replayability: While I wouldn't say there is a lot of post-game hub content, there's a lot more than what Boneworks had at launch, and there is something fun to do for every itch you might need to scratch. There are also loads of collectibles in each level, and the reclamation bin is no more, just hold and pull apart the orbs with both hands to add it for use in sandbox instead of carrying a bunch of bouncy orbs to the end of the level. Even with the relatively low amount of post-game content, mods should hopefully spice up the experience very soon, with user generated levels, avatars, etc.

Overall: This game is pretty solid. While its hard to recommend to most people now (unless you are a die-hard Boneworks fan) its pretty fun, but its probably best to wait a few weeks for people to release mods or for the game to go on sale.
7.5/10 (for now)

Edit: Mods are in higher availability now, and while its mostly avatars with just a few sandbox/parkour levels, punching the ♥♥♥♥ out of a nullbody as Adam Smasher from 2077 is pretty fun.

Cancel your VRC+ subscription, only way to get the devs to care about their game and to stop pulling the plug on fun and accessibility.

This game will ♥♥♥♥ you up.
