I'm Commander Shepard and this is my favorite trilogy on the Citadel.

Mass Effect offers a cohesive and very well crafted sci-fi universe, with an edge on intriguing storytelling, usage of cinematics, and RPG freedom. The range of characters, thrilling adventures, abundant content, and countless emotional moments has rightfully earned the trilogy a superb reputation. As such, after investing 130h in a single playthrough, saying I had a blast diving into the world is an understatement.

Storytelling and choices
Its success as a sci-fi RPG lies in the development of countless moral paths, earning friendships and romances, and shaping the world in whatever way you deem ideal. The story frequently presents intricate moral dilemmas, forcing the player to make tough choices, and understand the implications of those decisions.
In contrast to generic "good or bad" stories, the "best" path is decided only by your intentions and reputation. These decisions lead to the importance of Mass Effect's dynamic universe. A seemingly individual simple option may lead to dramatic differences in the future; and shaping the plot, characters and quests in ways you could've never predicted. As such, your actions will inevitably lead to pleasant moments, unforeseen consequences and heartbreaking losses. Every hour was filled with passion, happiness, sadness, anger and frustration, forming a deep emotional attachment to its universe.

Character development
A wide array of complex characters and crew members present great emotional depth in their backstories, opinions and identities. As you earn their trust and loyalty, they transform from simple crew members to faithful friends. The character development is unique, exceptionally well-written, and rich in details. Not to mention romance is enjoyable and passionate, and fleshes out their personalities as you strengthen your bonds.
Choosing what characters to involve in every quest was imperative, due to their connections to the world, exclusive dialogue and opinions.

Gameplay
While combat and movement have never been a strong aspect of the trilogy (especially clunky in ME1), they are enjoyable once you get the hang of them. Mass Effect 1 stays true to the RPG genre, with squad members specializing in abilities and stats you don't posess. However, ME2 streamlined the combat, reducing it down to a more simple but smoother experience. Whether you like the change or not is personal preference. Personally, the evolution wasn't an issue, and I enjoyed the gameplay.

Other aspects
In the more technical level, I just have to say all 3 games look incredible (though ME1 is somewhat outdated in the graphical aspect), run very smoothly, cinematics are great, and I rarely encountered any bug.

Conclusion
In essence, Mass Effect has rightfully earned a special place in the hearts of countless players and an almost spotless reputation for its emphasis on character development, creative storytelling and the importance of a good RPG, at the cost of some unpolished gameplay at times, and unfortunately the requirement of an EA account.

I play with a low-end laptop (though it definitely meets the spec requirements) but I never had any issues with performance. In fact, it ran very smoothly while still looking great at low settings.
However, the last lighting update completely killed my performance, even when using the lowest settings. Getting 20-30FPS on my Orbiter, missions go to single digits. And there's no way of using the old lighting graphics. Hopefully this will get fixed soon...

Opened the game and half the menus had no text at all, so I updated my drivers. Opened the game again, worked for 5 minutes and crashed. It now crashes on startup 100% of the time, even after following the Hello Games guide on how to stop it. Support ticket sent

Permanent and mindless grinding, boring and low quality content and updates, abysmal quality "events", loads of lag even in empty worlds with good Internet, leaderboards filled with cheaters (I don't even blame them at this point...), currency inflation, taxes, constant crashes, non-existent lore, developers unwilling to take feedback and admit their mistakes, treating their playerbase like 12 year-olds, and milking money with microtransactions

The only good thing to come out of this dumpster fire are clubs, but there's a lot of elitism
