This is not a modification, but a complete game

The Chronicles Of Myrtana: Archolos is theoretically a modification for Gothic 2, but in reality it's safe to say that it's a complete game, in which we play the role of Marvin, a man who, together with his brother Jorn, mischievously flees his home island from an orc attack and thus ends up on the island of Archolos. Despite the initial fascination with the village of Silbach, where life is idyllic and the biggest problem is the beasts of the field (at least at first), we discover the darker secrets of the main town, which is our starting point to the nearby vineyards, ruins and farms, as well as other interesting locations.

The climate of the game is on a similar level as in the first or second part of Gothic. Of course, there is a main plot and more elaborate missions, but there is practically something to do at every turn. There are a lot of random events in the game, for which we can get additional experience or gold. It pays to explore really everything we see and what we think hides some secret. On top of that, there are quest lists that appear every chapter and consist solely of killing the person/monster in question. All this makes for a lot of running around, but the various types of fast travel make up for everything.

It's also worth mentioning the quite extensive crafting system. In The Chronicles Of Myrtana we can make potions from various plants we encounter on our way, we can also make melee weapons, as well as ranged weapons, and ammunition for ranged weapons. The game also allows us to create magic scrolls at specially adapted scroll writing tables. On top of that, cooking various foods that provide us with bonuses.

Sound-wise it's really good, the music playing in the background takes us back to 2002 and fits the game world perfectly. The same can be said about the dubbing (at least in the language in which I played). It captures the characters of the characters in question very well. This is also an element worth mentioning, because the characters are memorable, although once I happened to meet two completely unknown characters at a rather climactic point in the game. In addition, most of the characters who have a name stand out with something and have something interesting to say.

Summary

Chronicles of Myrtana is a modification created from passion and you can just feel it. Entering the game you get the impression as if you were playing Gothic 2, but even one on steroids, with new features and a larger map. Every fan of Gothic 1 and Gothic 2 should go through this title and I guarantee that they will feel like they are playing one of those games, in terms of atmosphere and the whole setting. On top of that, this modification is 100% free.
