Early Access Review
Hands down the best co-op horror game I have ever played. It's super funny to play with friends. Definitely a better experience than Lethal Company and Content Warning and much easier to get into. You won't regret buying this, except if you really hate the emoji mascot

I'm upset I didn't play this legendary gem when it first came out.
10/10 game, even if people say this is the weakest entry in the series

This game gave me the darkest thoughts for a long time, I don't know of any other game that can do that. Outstanding game, would highly recommend.

Halo: Infinite is the last Halo game that will be released by the developers, 343 Industries. This game is supposed to combine all of the previous Halo games and turn it into something new and fresh while keeping some of the old mechanics intact. This is a great approach and I applaud 343 for bringing back some of the old features while introducing some new ones, but something still feels off about this game. My understanding is this is a classic Halo game but at the same time it's not a Halo game. In this review I will be sharing my thoughts of the game (as a player who played on the first insider flight and has actively played ever since launch). Don't mind my playtime hours too much for this review, ever since the public launch I haven't been able to play much but I did get a few games post-launch and still have some heavy critiques of the game.

Let's start with some of the good stuff:
- Game Engine: Thank goodness this game is running on a brand new engine that doesn't run like Halo: The Master Chief Collection. As a PC player who has high-end hardware I was very glad to see this game running so smoothly on high framerates. The game's netcode has also improved drastically from previous Halo games I think where I never had a match that was very laggy and unplayable. Everything felt responsive, from the clientside of the game to the serverside handling the game. I remember getting frustrated at previous Halo games because most of them were still using legacy p2p netcode that would often drop packets, give unfair advantages to specific people due to latency, and often long matchmaking times because of how the netcode works. Halo: MCC improved on this a lot but it still had major issues, this game never gave me any issues.

- Design and Sound: I'll start off saying that this game looks gorgeous. I remember people bashing this game during the trailer release because it apparently had low quality design for models, meshes, and textures, but this game has since drastically improved on the design. Beautiful sun rays, high quality textures, almost realistic looking ground environment, eye-soaring blooms, and very detailed models are a few things to mention. Every looks so nice that you really need to own high end components if you want to crank this game's details up to ultra. A few people have mentioned that this game wasn't very optimized; while I can say this was true on the first insider flight, the game has since well matured and runs great. There are a few hiccups on the main menu for some reason if you load in a lot of screens and load lots of customization content but aside from that the game was very stable. Finally the music is a classic signature for this game. Back are the remastered tracks from old Halo games but there are a few that were added. Sound feedback is great and not intrusive, and the new AI sounds are a nice touch but can get annoying at times (but luckily you can turn these off which is why I don't mind this).

Now here are some of the stuff I am not fond of:
- Multiplayer design: While I think multiplayer has seen major improvements internally, I can't feel but think that the way 343 designed the multiplayer was a bit stale. The new weapons bring some variety to the game, old weapons feel the same, but after that there was nothing really new added to the game. Sure the power abilities were added, lots of new actions you can do to interact with the map, but nothing really adds to the core value to the already existing game, making it a bit boring. I can't blame 343 for not trying to add more to the game because people would complain that it isn't a Halo game anymore, but I would've loved to see more in terms of weapon customization, adding more features to already existing weapons, or just do something with weapons that gave it new life. 343 did this a little bit on Halo 4 so I know they can do something like this for Infinite, it just hasn't been delivered yet. More maps, new gamemodes, and probably new playlists would probably be a great step.

- Menu design: I will say this straightforward, I hate the Menu UI on Halo: Infinite. I don't understand why this was changed from previous games, all of the previous Halo games were great, heck even Halo: MCC was still good. To start off, why does the main settings menu have so many options? Some of the buttons on the menu are just shortcuts to the other items on the main menu, serving no purpose. They did a few stuff right on the configuration menu, everything is separated into groups that allow you to easily find settings within each category, but the amount of items in each tab is so large they really need to add a search bar or something so I can search exactly what I am looking for. In the entire time I played Infinite I never found the option to have true fullscreen (not borderless fullscreen) and at this moment I am convinced that such option doesn't exist. Aside from the settings menu, the playlist menu (such as the campaign/multiplayer/theater) is very simplified and easy to navigate. But away to the Battle Pass screen we go and things start to get complicated again. Everything is too crammed together, too many items hidden in other menus that don't have clear indications that tell you that the items are in there, and the spartan customization menu is horrible and very laggy. I don't want to extend this review category further but the general idea is that the menus are very inconsistent and clearly need more work. I praised Bungie on Destiny 2's menus because of how intuitive the menu is, and to this day I still think developers need to follow what Bungie is doing to help me not mald to the stupid menus in this game.

- Battle Pass: The battle pass itself is great, it's similar to Halo: MCC's season pass but you can pay to have extra collectibles from the battle pass. This is the reason why this game's multiplayer is Free-To-Play. This is great, it has a few downsides but overall it's great for people who just want to play something. So why is this down here if I like the idea? A few core components of the armor customization, emblems, and a few more items are locked behind a battle pass. Oh you want to change your spartan's color? Good luck on that one bucko because most of the color options are locked behind the battle pass! That's right, you like the color purple on your spartan? Gotta grind up for the battle pass. Oh, you like that emblem that the player is wearing? That's also on the battle pass. How about the AI color and accent? Also on the battle pass. Literally most of the stuff is locked behind the battle pass, and you start off with so little to customize. You also miss out on stuff if you miss the seasonal battle pass. I know Halo: MCC does this in a similar way but the difference here is that in MCC most of the customization options are already available to you (such as the color/emblems one because you have most of them unlocked from the start anyways). Additionally, the XP for the battle pass in this game is such a dumb idea because most of your XP is locked behind challenges that you have to do. Great idea, poor execution. Will probably get adjusted soon.

- Missing features at launch: I put this at the bottom of the review because I am sure most people already know that this game didn't come with Campaign/Forge at launch which are some of the most crucial components to Halo multiplayer, meaning that the only thing you can play is matchmaking and really nothing else. No custom player content, no story and lore to learn from, just player vs player. I get that people were really hyped to get their hands in this game as soon as possible so they could delve many hours into playing the multiplayer portion of the game, but that time could've been easily used to polish the game more, add more existing content, and actually have a complete game ready to go rather than to wait for a while for the rest.

tl;dr- great ideas, poor executions.

I'm not sure how I didn't find this game sooner. After playing this game almost everyday for 6 hours I can confidently say that this game is definitely worth putting your hours to. There's a lot of content that you can do, each having its own variety level of difficulty that caters to any player.

Plenty of customization features and classes that will allow you to try out different gear/builds (buildcrafting/theorycrafting will get better when the next expansion comes out as well). Shaders are nice, a few armor pieces are very eye catching to look at as well.

Lore is ok but sometimes has a tendency to go off the board (or have conflicting lines that don't follow the story well). The expansions in this game is amazing but a minor annoyance is that you need to watch out for content that will eventually be vaulted (removed) from the game meaning you lose out on the value of the expansion you purchased, typically these soon-to-be content vaults are given out free a few months before they are removed (so don't buy expansions if you like to do farm things all at once).

Online activities such as Crucible, Iron Banner, Trials of Osiris can be annoying at times but overall can be very enjoyable when playing with other people; adding to this is that there are plenty of people willing to help you out grinding activities which is really nice. Gambit is terrible but in a good way. Vanguard is super handy to grind out loot while playing casual activities. The game's netcode is wonky at times and is something that does need polishing.

The game UI however is amazing and I am not sure why more game developers try to follow what Bungie has done in this game. Parallax menus that follow the mouse cursor position (it can be annoying a few times but it is something you get used to), clear legible bold fonts, amazing ultrawide support, and THE FACT YOU CAN INTERACT WITH EVERYTHING RELATED TO GEAR/QUESTS/ACHIEVEMENTS WHILE THE GAME IS LOADING IS SUPER HANDY.

And lastly I want to say the Telesto weapon is the reason you play this game. Everything that is great about Destiny 2 is because of the Telesto, or Telesto the Besto. Find Telesto before it finds you.

EDIT: The Steam version of this game was updated with all the latest fixes from the Xbox Game Pass version. It's still not a great port but I am glad that some notorious bugs have been resolved. Review rating changed to match my old review.

Don't think I had so much fun playing a Single Player game in a long time. Well worth the hours I put into the game. Didn't even finish the entire game, there's so much content and quests that I probably would spend 3x the current hours I have finishing them. There are some issues with this port that I noticed immediately (such as there's no ultrawide support out of the box, which relies on me getting a mod that fixes this at the cost of not being able to unlock achievements) but overall it runs smooth and I had no issues playing through the game normally. Great game, okay port but makes up for it because the story and content is so good.
