It's got a great craft/build/tier system in place, fun to farm for stuff and manage resources which you obtain from different sources, building a base however you like is a lot of fun along with managing the power and resources needed for it. Combat could use some work however, atleast when it comes to stamina usage and management and melee. They added a dual wield weapon that actually works well for combat unlike all the other melees and the terrible slow shield pen but there is only one dual wield and one unique variant with the games normal extremely obsolete bonus to it. Still an incredible amount of bugs and mechanics that are game breaking like being stuck on your ornithopters blades forever unless you move backwards and manage to get off it luckily and the climbing button being the same as the jumping and suspensor use button, among many others. The worst is that they still havn't added any end game content at all. You can kill other players farming spice and gear but you can't take any of their stuff, even if you could, you'd be in an ornithopter with rockets attached instead of storage (this is how scout orni's work in game) so you wouldn't be able to carry anything of theirs anyhow. Unless you use an assault thopter which is bigger and more sluggish but does more damage and flies slower. But you can't take anyones gear anyway, except in certain circumstances, so it's very pointless except to enrage people and troll them which isn't very fun at all for me. Especially for an "end game" to this. So farm for stuff for a while and finally get it buuuuutt there's nothing to do with it, so I guess I beat it. Could start again but that wasn't really an enjoyable experience. Could say it's survival but you really feel more like a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ using incredibly inefficient gear instead of good stuff until you finally get the good stuff but then there's nothing else to do in the game. Would be nice if there was a war between the two factions happening and patrols from each. Or spice operations you could que for and do with people and fight the enemy faction during it or maybe fortress with different bosses and mechanics you have to tackle but there isn't

Graphics are really good especially for characters in conversation, even their movements kind of tie into what they are saying most of the time. Interesting and full of twists story but for a RPG it's very linear and you don't have much say at all in how the story plays out. Sure you can choose who you romance, and for some reason Lord Capon is one of those choices, but that's the limit of your choices when it comes to plot. The combat has some cool points to it but overall its absolutely atrocious. If someone is out of your view and swings at you, there is no block prompt and even if you do block they will hit you anyway and then stagger you and they don't stop. While staggered you can't move your camera at all or do anything, literally can't even turn your camera to stop them or run. It can be managed somewhat but the only way to rid yourself of the terrible mechanics for melee combat is to shoot a bow and stay away or hidden. Even then if you're completely out of sight and shoot someone next to another character that can't even see you, they will immediately see you and know it was you. The restrictions imposed on the player are far too elaborate for this to be considered an RPG, you don't have a role, you're watching a story play out and controlling the character in between key points. The game is very interactive when it comes to alchemy and blacksmithing along with eating and sleeping and wounds and what not, but the lack of free choice and terrible melee combat really kill the fun in the game. I trudged through and was able to beat the game and even did my version of a new game + to see if being leveled would alleviate any of these incredible buzzkills, and to romance Katherine instead of Rosa but it was all for naught. The gameplay was far too frustrating for me to continue, if I could I would refund it.

Very out of date. DayZ was revolutionary in it's time, but now in 2022 it's so clunky and not tuned compared to every other game out there. Even at the time DayZ came out it was better to play Arma 2 DayZ as it had many many working vehicles and guns. Now, even still to this day in 2022, you absolutely cannot drive the cars with a slow internet connection for whatever reason. There is still almost no loot whatsoever in towns on official servers and the base building is still completely terrible as it has always been. Running sim to P.O.I.'s with no loot in them. I wish it had received all the love it's needed over the years but it has not, or perhaps it's way past time to make a DayZ 2, then atleast it would play on par with games now.
