Very atmospheric dungeon crawler - challenging but also fun. Combat is punchy yet tactile and the environments are destructible and procedurally generated. The game is well optimized and generally well polished.

Can't put the game down and can't wait for more from Gunfire Games.

Amazing mod for Red Orchestra: Ostfront.

If you like hardcore realism and WW2 shooters, this is a truly hidden gem on Steam.
Even after years and years the developers still update the mod and it makes Ostfront worth purchasing.

It's not the same as Red Orchestra 2 and offers a completely different, yet better experience altogether. What lacks in graphical effects and eye-candy this game makes up for in gameplay and realism. This is a game that I have always come back to again and again since I've bought it.

There also stands a very amazing and dedicated community behind this mod.

REVIEW UPDATE FOR 8.0 (Nov 11th 2017)

Here I am in 2017 writing an update to my review - the amount of work the authors of this mod put into making the game even better astonishes me. The new 8.0 update fixes in-game VOIP so you can communicate with those on your team nearby you in addition to using a new squad-radio. The new squad system improves gameplay and teamwork dynamically - it's very project-reality esque. A new squad-command system allows squad leaders to direct their squads fire or movement. Squad leaders can also give defend and attack orders on the objective map for their squad to see as well as pointing out enemy tanks, infantry movement or enemy defences for the entire team. Squads can now move supplies using logistic trucks in order to construct Platoon HQs, Sandbag Defenses, and even lay down forward static AT guns.

On the battlefield, squads will often find themselves skirmishing other entire squads - using flanking manuevers and utilizing defences, rallypoints and support weapons to overcome the enemy force and take the objective.

This mod is worth buying the base game (Red Orchestra: Ostfront) several, several times over. You can pick this game up for cheap, especially during a Steam sale. Buy it, install it, play it and enjoy it because this hidden gem of a game never fails to satisfy my WW2 realism hunger.
