It sure has come a long way from its release. It's fun exploring the universe and following the loose plot lines. The expeditions grate on me a little but everyone else seems to enjoy them, so you'll probably like that too. So much to do in the game, too.

Honestly, this feels like a game targeted at me -- rhythm-based action/beat 'em up? Heck yeah.

The visuals are great, the variety of music is awesome, and the actual gameplay is a lot of fun. The fact that you can add your own music is just icing on the cake. I look forward to the story mode - the bits they show here are fun so far.

The demo is great, and I'm totally buying the game when it comes out if it's like this.

Do you like Borderlands?
Do you enjoy good gameplay, even if it's accompanied by relatively lackluster writing?
Do you have a promo code to get it for less than the suggested retail price, or is it on a decent sale?

If the answer to all these questions is yes, then this may be the purchase for you. Otherwise, maybe give this one a pass. The gunplay is great, the writing is bad.

Am I having fun playing this? Yeah.
Would I pay full price for it? No.

So, recommended? Yeah, if it's on sale.

I'm not much of a gamer, typically, but I've got over 30 hours into FTL. That should say something in and of itself.

First, let me say that FTL is hard. Very hard. Luck is a big part of the game, but so is making the right decision. If you like the idea of overcoming nearly impossible odds to win, this game is for you.

FTL's sectors are randomly generated, so each playthrough is totally different. There's a bunch of different ships to try, all with different strengths and weaknesses. There's different weapons, typics of crew members, ship upgrades, and augmentations. While this may sound overwhelming, it all goes together rather naturally, once you've played through a couple times.

Most importantly, it's fun. While there are setbacks and situations in which you just can't win, never does it feel like I'm being robbed of a victory. It does, however, sometimes feel like I've planned poorly, and that's the awesome thing.

One thing I do suggest -- play it on easy first, even if you don't usually do that. Believe me, you'll need it.
