Though I myself am not a fan of the theme of the game, the game itself is solid! If you played DrugWars back in the day then it's pretty much that game with some extra bells and whistles but just in case you have not played it I'll sum it up quick.

This is a game where you have 30 days to make as much money as you can selling "The good stuff". You first have a loan that you should REALLY pay back that goes up a little each day but from there its all profit and its up to you to make the biggest bang for your buck. Sometimes random events happen, sometimes you bet on something and it wins first place making you bank, and sometimes you could lose a huge chunk of everything you own. Its a game that can be finished really fast but encourages replaying it over and over for the highest total money. Will you get super lucky or go broke? You can even sign up to compete with people online! As far as I know no one has cheated the leader board as of writing this.

Well worth the asking price too so give it a go!

Early Access Review
A game that got popular and suddenly the devs do a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ thing that no one likes? Sounds about right.

Way to shoot yourselves in the foot, idiots.

I'm mixed on this, just like the over all score this game seems to be. So here's what I think.

The Good:

- You have the fact that the C&H brand of funny is very much on display in this game and is great for fans of the online series and even newcomers. It has a ton of references to past videos and it feels like your really in that universe.

- Characters are fun to interact with as well and in an adventure game that is one of the biggest things you have to nail and they did just that.

- Puzzles range from easy to medium-ish in difficulty which may be just right for some people. I wish they could have been a bit more challenging but it is only episode 1 I guess so no complaints really.

- The locations are pretty interesting and walking around the areas you have access too is pretty cool. I see a lot of complaints of no fast travel but in a game with a HUB world this small your only losing seconds at a time going from place to place.

- The unlockable outfits fun to collect and there are a lot of fun ones to wear.

The Bad:

- Coop tends to slow down when hes walking towards a screen transition area for no reason. It's very weird for him to just not walk to the next area without having to slow down like that.

- Sometimes its hard to move around in the area with the old folks home because some of the street is is intractable.

- Some of the puzzles can be solved with items in the same room as your problem or VERY close by. The story missions tend to not do that but some of the side missions are like that. I guess its not SO bad but it happen often enough that I noticed it. Some people may like that though so I guess thats a positive to some people.

- I only found one death in the game and it's a joke. Not in the funny way but it just doesn't fit whats going on. Coop clutches himself like he had a heart attack despite him touching loose electrical wires. Why didn't he have a crazy electrical death?! He just kinda falls dead.

- The Ending. Yes, it's setting up for the apocalyptic story line in the next episode but come on, you couldn't let us walk around in it for even a little bit? I'm not super mad about it but it would have been nice to get a small taste of what is to come in the next chapter.

Overall:

It's a great adventure game that I would recommend if you go into it knowing 2 things. One is that it's not done yet and maybe should make it more clear to people buying it like calling the game "Freakpocalypse Episode 1" or something, I dont know. Two is that its a game that has its time extended by doing all the side quests and exploring around for its little secrets. If you rush the story you are going to be disappointed. Sit back, relax, and listen to the characters and take in the story like any good adventure game. If you can't get into the characters by the time you reach your house then this game just may not be for you, and that's ok. Steam has a refund option for that reason!

I have to start by saying that Sega SCREWED the creators of this game and them saying "Members of the original development team have brought this dusty gem to light, and they are proud that this project could be revived in some form to be shared with you, the fans." is a lie.

To that I give a hard, and very loud ♥♥♥♥ you to Sega for that.

I love Sega, and have since I was a kid, but this needs a call out and a very loud one at that. I am glad news of this is getting around though and people are aware that the creators are no happy with the situation.

That said, its a proto of a game so things are not done, stuff isn't as it should be, it has bugs, and its not a full package. You get this knowing that so I am giving it a positive rating cus I do like what I see here and I would have loved to have seen this as a full game. Sadly Sega's higher ups had there head in there ass for this one so we never got to see it.

After reading a lot of the reviews on this game and playing a few games myself I can’t exactly see the bugs people are having or understand a lot of the problems. My experience with the game has been positive and, while some things could use a change or two, I didn’t seem to have the same experience the people before me seemed to have had. I'll address the common ones I see:

“The game is buggy and isn't working” - These range from people not being able to play cards to people being stuck without being able to click anything. Maybe it hasn't happened to me yet because I only played a few games but I have had all my games run smoothly and without bugs. Maybe I just hit the jackpot and haven't had them yet but if I do run into bugs I will update this review.

“The text is way too small and the UI isn't great” - I think the text being too small may be a problem with computers playing this game at a higher resolution. I played mine on 1600 x 900 because my computer is pretty old so the text for cards that were not zoomed in was kinda small, but not unreadable. As for the UI it can be a bit to figure out but I found it fine when I got used to how it works. It’s clunky-ish but not unusable.

“The only thing you can see about the minis on board is their Strength” - No you can see the color they are too based on the light around them. I admit yellow and brown kinda blend into each other a bit if you are not paying attention, but the information as to who's clan it is isn't absolutely unclear. At least in my games anyway.

“There is no ability to save a single player game and come back” - Ya, that is one of the big cons of this game. It sucks hard not being able to save a game to come back to later. The game isn’t long if you know what you're doing but still that would be a nice feature to have. This is a must add in the future.

“The board should be bigger and more epic” - Ya, another con of the game is that the board sorta feels a little cramped. It still works but a little more breathing room for pieces would be nice. I know it's tight in the real life board game as well but that's a physical board you have to put on a table or something, this is a game where space is no longer an issue. Not a must change but would be nice.

“The camera sucks and the tree in Yggdrasil is way too big” - Yes and no. It sometimes auto zooms out for no reason, I have had that happen two times in the games I have played, but when you zoom in and position the camera by right clicking then it seems to work fine. It could use a lot of work to not zoom out randomly but as for Yggdrasil the tree is only a problem if your camera is zoomed to not see behind it. Just zoom out a bit and position with right click and you should be fine

“Couldn't get into a multiplayer game” - I can't speak for this because I have not tried. I saw some servers when I went in and will try it soon, but as of now I can at least say I do see servers. As for playing them and stability, I can't comment on that yet. Will update.

“The battles could have had cool animations, but it's kinda dull” - Ya, the fighting just kinda happens and people disappear. I would have loved for some kick ass fighting animations between the pieces that are fighting. This is something that I would hope can come in the future. This still isn't a deal breaker for me though.

There may be some more points I am missing but to sum it up I haven't run into a bug yet and the game is good, albeit a few problems that can use some fixing and tweaks, as well as a real need to be able to save your single player game, that should have been in the game for day 1. I would recommend this game if you can’t afford the real game, otherwise I would say get this game if you don’t want the physical game or just want to play with NPC's that can be pretty smart, but obviously not as smart as real people.

A 7/10 from me. Above average game for its single player portion. Will update for multiplayer in the coming days.

Due to 3D Realms bending the knee to a very vocal minority of people that are not going to buy this game in the first place I now very much don't recommend this game to anyone anymore. No, it’s not just because they changed some things in the game, but because this goes against the original vision they had for the game in the first place. If anyone on the team is reading this I very much don’t trust you guys anymore now for future games.

Edit: They changed a lot of it back since I wrote this, but my point is going to stand cus if they did it once they can do it again. You lost trust with me over a stupid stunt like this which sucks cus this game is REALLY good, I do really really love this game, it's just now forever tainted with the move you pulled. Never listen to people who are not going to buy your game in the first place, ever.

Fun little game with 4 endings you can get. If you like the game Concluse you will like this one too. It has the same creators behind it as well. It's a game that will take you a few hours to beat, has some interesting lore, and can be a bit challenging. I say give it a go!

I also made a guide for the game too! Check it out HERE if you get a bit lost.

Honestly a damn solid game. Got that old school feel to it like something from Silent Hill, but manages to stay it's own game. Would very much so say give it a try, plus with a price tag of free you really can't go wrong.
