Looking good. A lot of work has went into that since the last time i visited. Thank you and well done to those who contributed to creating that useful resource. :)

Thank you Plagman. Yea, I've been dumping loads of text (this is mikeyd) in there. I'm always in need of help, good links/videos, and hardware to catalogue. Thanks to everyone that has helped out here and on the wiki.

Just added some of my build I will work on adding the rest. Also going to be swapping parts around to see what all works. (khogan737)

I am a modder and a player of them. Specifically source mods. I was wondering if it is possible to download mods off of moddb.com or desura.com something of that matter, download source sdk and play them on steamOS. I dont know how modding on steamOS would be though. Give me some insight on the type fo stuff.

Game files are found in "/home/steam/.steam/steam/steamapps". You can mod those files, but if the mod you want in the workshop, you are required to put in some extra effort to make changes to it.

The easiest way to do this, I'm not even kidding, is probably like this:
  1. Connect a keyboard and mouse to your Steam Machine.
  2. Press Ctrl+Alt+F4 on the keyboard. This will give you a login prompt.
  3. Log in with the username "steam".
  4. Run the following command to start the desktop as that user:
    xinit /usr/bin/gnome-session -- :2
  5. Open the application files from the desktop.
  6. Press Ctrl+h to show hidden files, now you can navigate to your Steam games and modify them
  7. When you're done, just press Ctrl+Alt+F7 to return to Steam.

Downloading mods can be done with the browser.

If you want to be able to extract zip/rar/7z files or open text files, you'll need to perform another set of steps, though:
  1. Press Ctrl+Alt+F5 on the keyboard, which will give you another login prompt.
  2. Log in as the user "desktop"
  3. Run this command to install the archive manager and a text editor:
    sudo apt-get install gedit file-roller -y
  4. Wait for it to finish, then switch back to the desktop with Ctrl+Alt+F8 or Ctrl+Alt+F9, can be either one, or switch back to Steam with Ctrl+Alt+F7.
It is a somewhat of an annoyance that the user for the regular Linux desktop which you can launch from Steam can't do much with the files of the user which runs Steam. This is what makes quite a bit harder to do.

Lol sounds like bullshit. I'll just stick with pc. More support for everything, and easier. Thanks for that though.

Plug it in, enter the BIOS and make sure USB is the first boot option, exit BIOS

I was wondering how to get to bios, sorry I should've specified that.
