Where is the download link for SteamOS for PC?
I know that this is may be the silliest question, but I am absolutely unable to find the download link for the SteamOS update 2.195. Whenever I search in Google, I always end up in the download page for the SteamOS for the Steam Deck (which can not be used on a PC):

https://store.steampowered.com/steamos/buildyourown

Could anyone please provide a download link for the SteamOS img/iso for PC?

Many thanks!!!

I can confirm you Valve did removed it. Thankfully, to prevent people installing an outdated distribution, but i can see how you are aware of that fact. I'm not aware of any archiving done for that version sadly, especially officially.

I thought that it was the latest version... Could you please provide a link to any distribution suited for a laptop PC??? I can only find images for the Steam Deck...

If you want to have a "SteamOS"-like experience, there are 2 options for you. But beware: They are mainly designed to run on systems with an AMD GPU. Even if the 2. option is also running on NVIDIA hardware, it's still a better experience if you have an AMD GPU.

HoloISO: https://github.com/HoloISO/holoiso (Should be used on a AMD GPU based System)
ChimeraOS: https://chimeraos.org (also runs on NVIDIA)
You can also just use any more classical Linux distribution, and allow it to start automatically in Big Picture mode.

HoloISO is SUPER JANKY on Nvidia. I have a 1070 Ti on my TV gaming rig and Big Picture on my Linux desktop with an R9 270 (2GB card) runs faster and smoother than that does.

I have tried the HoloISO image, but it doesn't even start on my computer (maybe it's because this laptop uses Nvidia). I've been using Ubuntu for many years and Steam works well with this distribution. However, I was looking more of a "videogame console" experience, and I thought that SteamOS could be an interesting option (for playing games and maybe for watching YouTube/videos).

I find it quite strange because it seems that in fact there is a SteamOS version for a regular PC, but I'm just unable to find it.

In fact the last pinned message on this channel (https://steamcommunity.com/groups/steamuniverse/discussions/1/) says "SteamOS update 2.195 released", but it doesn't specify a link to download this release!!!

Valve's Steam OS repo is at https://repo.steampowered.com/ . According to https://repo.steampowered.com/download/README.txt
SteamOS version 1 'alchemist' and version 2 'brewmaster' have been
discontinued. No further updates are planned.

SteamOS version 3 'holo', as used on the Steam Deck, is a separate
codebase based on Arch Linux packages. An installer for use on generic
PC hardware is planned but not currently available.

And https://www.google.com/search?q=site%3Arepo.steampowered.com+iso reveals those official ISOs are long gone.

I too am wanting Steam OS 3 for PC to use with my nVidia rig. It's really nice on my Steam Deck. I'd like a consistent experience between them - and no Windows.

Ooo. Maybe I should put a webpage watcher to see when their download directory changes to be notified its available.

@retrogunner, guess you are right. I was a bit confused because of the pinned message from May about the last release. I assumed that it was May this year, but it turns out that it was a mesagre from May 2019, so it is quite obsolete.

Anyway, I consider that the SteamOS webpage is a bit confusing. Hope that they will release a SteamOS for PC soon! If you set up the webpage watcher and detect that this version is released, it would be great to know. Thanks!

Yeah... Everywhere I turn, I am redirected to the following download page. I've booted into the image installed to a USB drive, but whatever I install does not appear bootable from the USB stick - ARGH...!

+1, to much outdated info on Steam itself, Steam should have removed that.

i can add:
in the FAQ at this very forum ( https://steamcommunity.com/groups/steamuniverse/discussions/1/648814395741989999/ ), the link
"Q: What is SteamOS? SteamOS" goes to a Steam Store search page where SteamOS is NOT listed.

+ one more at DIY-DL & OEM/Partner-DL: https://store.steampowered.com/steamos/

Something wrong For DIY DL i am directed to a page with DL-links for Steam Deck images even though on that page there's a warning that that specific copy is not compattible with Steam Deck.....

Wrong dl or wrong tekst?
