Wow! Kernel 4.16? That's front-and-center, stand-up-and-take-notice of SteamOS, Aye?!
The upgrade process to 2.154 went OK-ish, more exactly I had to do multiple restarts and even when finished, one package refused to install, namely the "steam launcher" package, both 64 and 32 versions. It was available for upgrade in desktop mode, but I choose to leave the old versions in place.
Then added in desktop mode the beta repos and upgraded to 2.164, and this time the upgrade process went without issues (it took a long while though, so you have to be patient) and even the problematic "steam launcher" packages were updated to the latest version.
* I did encountered at this point the Steam login issues discussed in the other thread. SteamOS is stuck here, and you can't upgrade to 2.154 or do anything else until you solve (or workaround) the login issue.
By the way I've been playing Rise of the Tomb Raider on a GTX1070/SteamOS and the hard part was getting around the Feral Launcher. I've been playing for around 8hrs without any issues on max settings. Feral support said it renders fine on those drivers but may occasionally crash (haven't had that happen yet). That said, I'm curious to see if I'll get an FPS increase with the new drivers.
Thanks.
