Down for maintenance (2023-05-25)

Taking just about everything down to do some maintenance on the operating system. This is a major in-place upgrade of Debian Linux from version 10 "Buster" to version 11 "Bullseye". So, 50% chance this break everything for a week or so.

Fistful of Frags (FoF) server update: "Ponyville"

NOTE: Fistful of Frags (FoF) is a FREE western-themed first-person-shooter game.

Our Fistful of Frags (FoF) game-server running in "Horse-Play" mode, is now hosting the custom map "Ponyville". Yes, it's that "Ponyville" originally for Team Fortress 2 (TF2) ported over toe Fistful of Frags (FoF).

Down for maintenance (2023-04-28)

Taking-down all the game-servers, SourceBans, back-end web-sites, etc. to do some maintenance on the underlying operating system, including a reboot.

Everything should be up within about a half-hour.

Hourly:
What:
  • Checks for any updates to games (FoF, TF2, etc.).
  • If an unapplied update is detected, relevant servers are stopped, updated and restarted.
  • Servers without any applicable updates are not directly impacted.
  • This is for all [WeaselsLair.com] game-servers.
When:
  • Hourly, every hour or every day that another maintenance event is not scheduled.
Duration:
  • For any servers requiring updates, typically under fifteen (15) minutes.

Daily:
What:
When:
  • Daily at UTC: 10:26
  • Daily at Las Vegas: 03:26 AM Daylight/Summer-Time
  • Daily at Chicago: 05:26 AM Daylight/Summer-Time
  • Daily at New York: 06:26 AM Daylight/Summer-Time
Duration:
  • Typically under thirty (30) minutes.

Weekly:

  • All game-servers stopped, backed-up, and restarted (sequentially).

Six new customized Fistful of Frags servers

After a long hiatus from Fistful of Frags (about a year or so), I'm back!

Servers that were formerly branded as "Freaks & Misfits" or "[F+M]" are now "Weasel's Lair" (an older resurrected group).

One of these servers ("Horse-Play") is dedicated to only horse-riding optimized maps. All other servers have horse-riding effectively disabled.

Current list of [WeaselsLair.com] Fistful of Frags servers:
  • 162.248.88.40:6311 = 2-team deathmatch, no horses.
  • 162.248.88.40:6313 = 3-team deathmatch, no horses .
  • 162.248.88.40:6315 = 4-team deathmatch, no horses .
  • 162.248.88.40:6317 = team-play / objectives, no horses.
  • 162.248.88.40:6319 = horse-play (horse-specific maps only).
  • 162.248.88.40:6321 = retro-FoF (old versions of maps).
All servers feature:
  • Using IP's from old [F+M] servers.
  • East/Central US location - Chicago.
  • Stable hosting provider with good anti-DDoS capabilities - NFOServers.com.
  • Player statistics / ranking - http://stats.weaselslair.com/fof
  • Anti-cheat detection - via "Little Anti-Cheat" (aka "Lilac").
  • Player ban-management and protests/disputes/reprieves - http://sourcebans.weaselslair.com/
  • In-game voice communication disabled (period).
  • Shoot-out servers in "classic" mode (i.e. no jump-master, no slide).
  • Scheduled in-game music - which can be opted-out of using the !soundoff command in the in-game chat.
  • Quake-style kill-streak sounds - which can be opted-out of using the !quake command in the in-game chat.
In the near future, I may be delegating more in-game administration to an outside group of people for better player behavior moderation.
