Very high RAM consumption
Is it normal that Steam now consumes 1GB of RAM and more?

P.s. For those who have a weak computer, you can add "+open steam://open/minigameslist"
Example: "D:\Steam\steam.exe" +open steam://open/minigameslis

Steamwebhelper.exe consumes less RAM, I have -200-300.
If you need to shop or view your profile, you can do this through the tray icon, thereby returning RAM consumption.

This isn't 98, let their ram budget grow some.

You're right, I also wouldn't like steam to eat a gigabyte of ram. I kinda have to conserve here since I have 8 gigabytes with another 8 in swap. And swap isn't the best for ram.

Yea... Not a real issue on my rig due to having more RAM than anyone needs, but it is actually quite high for something that's intended to be constantly running on the background.
For me, this is also not a problem, but for an application running in the background while you play, this is really not normal ..

they need to cut this down, this will not be well regarded if it ships like this

Beta 27 takes 1,2 MB of RAM, but 28 it takes around 600-700 MB of RAM - the same system, the same games.

I wish they would make it so small mode would disable, most of, the webhelpers. You used to be able to use -no-browser launch option and small mode and steam would only be around 60MB of ram.
I use low network load mode and simplified library mode...

You have to do fairly brutal approaches to get rid of web helpers and lower system load.

I got 32 gigs of ram and I still wont defend you here man. Why? Because Steam is here to be a simple launcher for games. You buy it, you play it. It shouldn't use more than 20 MB of ram realistically. Why does browser exist in Steam? Literally no point, because you already got a browser on your system for tasks that are suited for a browser, while steam should have only one purpose and that is to give you an ability to buy and play a game. Sure you can stretch it a bit more, adding chatting system, which as a programmer I can tell you for sure that it doesn't take a lot of ram to achieve that functionality or the game market for example, it just loads items when needed. Now on my system steam is using 2401MB, which is insane and unjustifiable. And in the end all it has to load is a simple list of all of my games. Even if that list was massive (10000) games, still you are not loading much, just text, perhaps caching some arts for the games (which don't have to be loaded at all times, just when clicked on the games should they be loaded into memory). So why is Steam using so much ram? Welp devs are lazy, which is very expected from valve.

I'm also seeing an unusually high amount of RAM usage - 1.2 GB - that's way too high for what the client is doing. Even though I've got 32 GB on my PC, that's way too much for just one App.

Also, the client uses 100% CPU for the 1st 5-6 seconds after it starts up. And on my PC, with 20 threads, that's also way too much for whatever the client is doing.

Hello, I can't play steam anymore because I "only" have 8 Go of RAM. Steam used to work with less RAM ! I launch it ONLY to play little oldschool game. some of them I was lucky to find them outsdie steam else I couldn't launch them anymore on my computer (since I use the browser (at least 2 Go) in addition and other stuffs on my comptuer).
So now using steam and launching a mini game I just go out of RAM.
I tried the "-no-browser" option but it still launchs the webhelper... how can we do it now ? just leave steam ? (that and the fact that all the game that worked before in proton can't be launche anymore on my side because of new Vulkan version, I wonder if I can keep steam on y little linux computer :'( please let us have a "silent mini low RAM" mode !

Opt out of the Beta and go back to the old client.
