Guest controller not connecting in Steam Remote Play Together.

ISSUE
Guest controller not connecting in Steam Remote Play Together.

OS
Windows 10 on both machines.

STEPS

1. Select any game which supports two players with controllers.
   
2. Invite friend to Steam Remote Play Together.
   
3. Open Steam overlay and notice that guest controller is not visible/accessible
   
4. Try in-game as well but does not work.

TRIED

• Different host machine.
  
• Both controllers definitely work.
  
• Restarted system.
  
• Restarted router.
  
• Restarted Steam.
  
• Re-downloaded Steam Beta test.
  
• Tried reversing host and guest machine set-up.

NOTES
Steam Remote Play Together has worked before under the exact same circumstances, except that Valve might have released a new Steam Client Beta updated since then, I'm not sure.

Ok, so each client has to ALT-TAB (even if remote session is already in focus) then reconnect gamepad, for remote play to recognize additional controllers? I'm trying to get DariusBurst working with three controllers and remote play.

In my case the Steam Remote Play Together can find the guest controller but it just don't to anything, the inputs don't work via the controller only M+KB, i tried switching the controller positions but same result, only my controller works and his won't do anything.

Me and my buddies have been struggling getting the gamepad to work as a guest on a Steam Remote Play Together session. After a couple of days, we finally found a simple solution that works like a charm:
While connected to the Steam Remote Play Together session, simply un-plug the gamepad and re-plug it to the computer. This seems to force the gamepad input to the already running remote session, after un-pluging and re-pluging the gamepad it should work ok.

We tried almost everything we saw online. What you say is for both to alt tab an reconnect the controller?

That's what it says in this thread.
Well, Titomanya_UY seems to have success with just reconnecting the controller without any extra alt-tab stuff.

Perhaps it's enough to start Remote Play Together before the controller is connected/turned on. I didn't try.

There was an update in the August 3rd beta that was supposed to fix several issues with guest controllers in Remote Play Together. Can you make sure both you and your friend are running the beta client and try again? Beta instructions can be found here: https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/276C-85A0-C531-AFA3

I can assure you that the connecting party controllers are still unrecognised. I tried on 3 different games last night with a friend and just gave up. I have used remote play in the past and it worked a treat in beta but now its just broken and doesn't work as intended

Can you walk through step by step exactly how you invite and the other person joins?

• What version of Steam are you running? (public? beta?)
  
• What game are you launching?
  
• How do you send the invitation? (Right click friend, Remote Play Together guest link, are you alt-tabbed or using the in-game overlay, etc?)
  
• Does the Remote Play Together UI shows a controller connected for the guest? If so, does it wiggle when they try to press buttons?

Here's an example that I just tried:

1. I launched Farm Together
   
2. I brought up the in-game overlay with shift-tab and created a Remote Play Together guest invitation
   
3. I alt-tabbed to a mail program and sent the invitation to a friend, using a DualSense controller on Linux
   
4. while I was alt-tabbed, my friend clicked on the link and launched the Steam Link app and connected
   
5. I alt-tabbed back and used shift-tab to clear the UI
   
6. My friend hit the 'A' button and started a game successfully

I still have that issue today 19 Dec 2021
The game don't recognize the guest controller in game.
If as a host I invite a guest and make him controller 1 and myself controller 2 then his controller works but my controller doesn't

ive finally managed to find a fix for my friend. i had been trying to play madness project nexus for days with my friend, but the controller wasnt being detected. i checked the library on steam and next to guide, discussions it appeared "controller configuration", and i put the same things as my friend did, and despite me using mouse and keyboard, it finally detected his controller

Steam will not fix it, they will say that the game devs have to fix that they have point but Steam must disclose the issue and the workaround
