Steam won't keep separate log in info for each Windows user after last beta update
ISSUE
After last couple beta updates as of 2022-02-03, when two users share the same PC, Steam won't keep separate log in sessions for each Windows user account. Instead it keeps the last logged in user across every Windows user account.

OS
Windows 11

STEPS
Log in to Windows user account 1.
Open Steam and log in to Steam account 1.
Sign out Windows user account 1.
Log in to Windows user account 2.
Open Steam, Steam account 1 would be logged in.
Sign out Steam account 1, log in to Steam account 2.
Sign out Windows user account 2.
Log in to Windows user account 1, open Steam and Steam account 2 would be now logged in.

RESULTS
Last Steam user logged in would carry across both Windows user accounts.

EXPECTED
Steam should keep different logged in users for each Windows user accounts. This behavior makes more sense, makes easier and hassle free to share the same PC while keeping separate users and separate Steam accounts. Has been working for at least the last five years.

--- Original post below: ---

I've been sharing the same PC with my couple for the last 5+ years. Each of us have our own Windows user account and every time we open Steam we'd have our own account logged in.

For some reason, with no Windows update, software or hardware change, Steam stopped keeping a different log in for each user account yesterday.

Steam will keep the last log in it was used across both Windows users, so we have to keep logging out and in.

Can you test if this only happens in Steam Beta?
(It could be due to some change in windows basically, if this didn't happen before)

edit: (idk if your family members changed anything or that some installation changed something. Its not nessecarily windows update basically. Maybe they ran CCleaner or some other piece of software that messed with the registry, or idk.)

I've got the same problem, and yes, it is only in Beta. People say they recently started having the same problem:

Thanks, posted it there too. Should we report it somewhere to get noticed?

I guess it only happens in beta. Saw another thread in reddit as well.

Idk, I guess we are already in the bug report section, but there is a more formal form of reporting a bug, it might be worth following:

But I don't know if we should make a new thread or you should edit this one.

Thanks! Updated original post with that template, hope it's worth it. Love Steam and the current setup we were using, if anyone else has the same issue please report here.

well i have the latest non beta version of steam and this is happening to me
I experience the same as well, beta.
Molkree Feb 4, 2022 @ 11:27am
This started happening after the beta update on Jan 31, not Feb 2, for me. Also I'm on WIn10 so it's not limited to Win11.
prositen Feb 4, 2022 @ 12:17pm
I have the same issue. Win 10, since the January 31 update.

Same problem for me, not on windows 11 beta. Don't know about steam update though. I'm hoping since they're at least a few of us we can get this resolved somehow.

Same problem here, started a couple of days ago having had no issues with multiple user accounts and steam accounts on one PC for years

Nice to see I'm not the only one. Thanks for reporting everyone, hope it can get sorted out!

I'm also having this issue, very annoying as it allows anyone else who uses this computer to just access my steam account...
