I doubt the empire has such terrible social distinction. Look the empire needs mages, knights, engineers, priests, witch hunters and all kinds of military inclined people I doubt there enough nobles to fill all those. I can see a peasant become the grand patriarch or a great witch hunter or a engineer of great renown.
