The subgen for this is already in development. The test version is already in the mod folder.

For this I need my own pathfinding framework, which is too outside the scope of this mod. Vanilla has nothing for this, even Anomaly, having a darkness event, does not have dark/light pathfind.

you didnt get it,
1: the designe of the weapon, jackrabbit whatever mods you put on it it stay the same looking one (and dont come with your skin, its only recolor for 80% of them)
2: having all mods on 1 weapon is boring, splitting them into diffrent ones add more possibility
3: having the choice to bring 2 shotgun in a mission, each one with diffrent utility

i believe you kind of miss the point of the upgrade system then? if we take out the fire mode changing ones, you are left with barely any mods in many cases that are effectively changing the weapon.

bringing in 2 shotguns would actually not be too effective of a strategy to begin with, as since they are both shotguns they perform the same role short range burst damage. upgrades dont really change that.

i can agree with you on stale visuals, but an easy suggestion (not easy implementation) would be to have some core upgrades that change the gun, also change the visual (example of this would be bioshock 1) have multiple styles of visual change and boom you have better visual variety.

Do not savescum. You characters need to go fight and get the crap knocked out of them. Repeatedly. Losing fights is what makes your squad tougher, stronger, more skilled, etc.

Sure, but there's an escalating risk of dying or losing limbs if you are attacked again when you're already hurt. And a lot of enemies will eat you alive.

The "enemies eating you alive" is the only actual real danger (fogmen, cannibals, beak things, maybe dogs). It is very hard to die from normal combat, especially as you skill up your character's toughness: and the only way to increase toughness is by getting into fights with stronger opponents and getting your butt whipped by them.

As long as you have a squad-member hanging back on reserve to rescue someone (if needed) then your chances of anyone dying is exceptionally low. Also, losing limbs is a good thing ;) If someone loses a leg, then have someone else carry them to a shop and buy some robotic upgrades.

Your characters will typically "play dead" and be left alone and not be attacked again. It is OP to "stand back up" and rejoin the fight (gives you a drastic increase in Toughness stat when you get back into the fight after being knocked out). All your characters should be equipped with bandages and splits and have permanent "Medic" and "Splinting" jobs enabled on them -- they'll bandage themselves while "playing dead".
