Looks like people forget a lot that the point of a game is fun, i don't understand people that voted for perona or wanted foxy, they're useless and on the scale this game runs, they're just not fit, they could be objectives targets or model in the crowds since the start and i wouldn't have even saw. Same for lucci btw, at least kaku is visible, i only ever find out there was a lucci on the map when i get the "enemy slain" effect on screen. i'd rather have ANY other fighter of egghead or even wano. i hate raizo, yet i'd prefer him.

Zephyr, outside of being fairly popular as the mentor of several of the strongest marines including all admirals, he could bring some good options for a game like this one. we already have specials that have different effects on specific targets or situation, imagine his burst makes every hit of his sea prism stone arm cancel logias and df targets shield or bursts, imagine a move with the explosive rocks from the movie, a large scale explosion is something we could use in large maps. not damn slow beams.

and for Enel, i'm happy he's back, but two things.
first, they once said they will not bring back old character as paid dlc, enel was in oppw3, and secondly, Even if he's brought back, it doesn't mean it will be good or scale with the power of post time skip characters. Do you want a maxed enel that struggles against grand-line diff ? i don't.

same thing can be said for all characters, people thought Uta would be OP and koby weak and it's the opposite, the preparation uta requires to hit hard doesn't pay off enough, but koby just works. simply works.

I don't know if they're gonna freely update other characters movesets like for the mugiwaras, we can only pray for it. BUT for the price of such DLC, the only thing i can say is DO NOT PRE-ORDER. wait at least for informations to drop, be sure the characters you want are worth it. the price isn't gonna shoot up before they're out, you're not missing anything by paying later. save money, and pray for a good dlc and update.

Restoration vs GZDoom vs original Hexen
Nyss
Seiya
So, first, the description for the game does not say it is a remaster or remake. They call it a "enhanced restoration". And you know what, that is pretty close to what it is.

I am just going to call all of the re-releases here game+.

I am going to stay away from mods. Right now, there are not many for Hexen+.

GZdoom uses almost completely new engine. The Hexen+ version here makes me wonder if they took the original Doom+ engine they had and modified it to run Heretic and Hexen. It would explain a lot of the oddities and bugs.

Anyways, I loaded up Hexen on dosbox and I can say, I am not doing that again. How the heck did I beat the game using bad keyboard only controls... It is at the bottom of everything. Moving on.

Visuals
GZdoom wins here easily. As I mentioned before, it is using what amounts to a completely new engine. It supports hardware rendering. It converts all level structures to 3d vs 2d. And yes, every level in every doom engine game is in pseudo 3d. This means looking up and down does not have any distortion. GZdoom has better lighting effects. And the biggest win, it renders in 32bit graphics vs 8bit graphics.

Hexen+ is pretty much in second place in visuals in all areas. Most of this goes, once again, to it being a nicer dosbox than a new engine. As a note here, the reason for the weird vertical distortions is that it is a pseudo 3d engine. You can actually see these distortion effects in another place. the SNES's Mode 7. That is pseudo 3d as well.

Gameplay
This is where things get messier.

GZDoom has the VERY nice option to turn off auto-aim. Trying to hit the bell on the starter level at range is annoying because auto aim goes for the trees of all things. I know that it does this because they are destroyable, but still annoying. Being able to choose what to hit is extremely nice. Ever since I got to do it in Quake, it is has been something I have expected in any new FPS game.

GZDoom also has an updates ACS system. This allows for much more complicated actions to coded in.

Hexen+ has some, very unexpected, gameplay improvements. One, that is nicer than I ever thought it would be, is being able to bind keys to each usable item. Grenade to 'g', healing to 'f', and repeal to 'r' makes it so much easier to use them now. I actually hope I can find a GZDoom mod that lets me do that since it doesnt.

Another is the various "enhancements" you can turn on. The markers on the map actually have helped more than I would have expected. I always forget about the pushable walls. This always causes me issues on the wastelands map. It telling me that the last thing I needed was on that map and where it was got me looking more closely.

Hexen+ also has the class enhancements. This is one place where I love them and get thinking they maybe OP. This is where I am fighting myself. I played competitively for too long and always think of things in terms of PvP. If you play like that, they are brutally OP. When I think in terms of having fun..., now I want a GZDoom mod with them.

Bugs
GZDoom has had more than a decade of work put into it. It is pretty stable at this point.

Hexen+ needed more work put into it. It really does feel like it has had almost no QA put into it.

Overall
I would say Hexen+ would be more fun if the autoaim had a turn off option. GZDoom would be wonderful with some of the enhancements. In both cases, modding could give both a shot at it. As of right now, there is only one gameplay mod for Heretic+. GZDoom has all those years of modding done on it, so I am more expecting to see a mod on it. This means, for the time being, GZDoom is the better one to play.

However, GZDoom takes a lot more work to setup, so I would suggest a new player do Hexen+ before it.
