I was thinking the exact same thing! I ended up getting a Sapphire Radeon RX 9070, it came in the mail today :)

Avoid NVIDIA and save yourself the regret later when your drivers stop working and stop receiving updates. Plus, the 9070 has more FLOPS and less watts, and no stupid melting 12-pin power connector.
Very smart choice and I fully agree! :GoatLove:

I could compare vs xt and non-xt and kept the non-xt, the xt was at best 1% faster per same W at stock (but couldn't uv as much, so non-xt is a bit faster with -90mv vs -50 xt stable) and the extra 100W for 9% perf was not worth it. But best of all, I got the samsung gddr6 chips, which is 12C cooler than the sk hynix on the xt.

What I notice with wh3, is that it hammers both the core and vram bus really hard, that's why perf is almost 2x vs 9060 xt/5060 ti in the lows and about the same as 5070 ti avg fps with much higher 0.1 and 1% lows with causes butter smooth experience, which is far more important than having high fps which are completely meaningless, which I lock to my monitor's ~60hz anywho (then it uses 100-120W with much cooler temps and almost unhearable over casefans. This for me is all important (butter smooth experience without (micro) stutters and low power consumption (=> less heat => less noise)).

Nvidia people on cursed 5000 series can only play wh3 properly with smooth motion on, which is a framegen (FG) that boost fps close to 2x, equivalent of amd's afmf which does the same. It's very ingenuine for them to compare apples with oranges, because FG causes artifacting and ghosting (which is very noticeable with fast movement, such as tree leaves and camera panning. Raster > fake frames. With FG on, I can also achieve 120fps in 4k, but again, what is the point doing that, when I lock to 60fps and want the best visuals as the game intended to show (not fake ai frames). It additionally introduces extra latency. Those nvidia issues are at least one year old and might not even be fixable if it's on a hardware level. I originally wanted to buy the 5070 ti, but when I saw all the issues and my own experience with 3000 series and 4090, I switched to AMD Radeon and I'm pleasantly surprised how much perf at such low W I get at such amazing low temps, I decide to stay with amd radeon. No problems like flashing and missing textures, pure bliss now.

For pure raster, like wh3, that also utilizes the vram bus a lot, amd is king. You get more die size than 5070 ti, thus more transistors at a more refined node (thus better efficiency OR more perf/W), that do the heavy work and you're not plagued with driver issues and downgraded perf down the line (I can know, I had a 3070 before, driver updates caused my uv profile to become unstable and I had to decrease clockspeed multiple times, in 4 years time, I lost more than 100MHz not to crash, whilst the similar 6800 didn't suffer from all of this and even gained perf over time via drivers).

Another thing that amd radeon is much better at is providing much more consistent frametimes, thus framepacing, when a lot of other programs are running in the background (especially with hardware acceleration), such as chrome. I got over 20 windows with 3000 tabs open and a lot of other programs that utilize the gpu and it STILL manage to provide high 0.1 and 1% lows (identical to as when just starting up pc and doing the benchmark) at near 60fps lows (inc. 0.1% lows!!) and only lost on average 1fps > 90fps ie campaign benchmark. This is impossible to do with nvidia, even on 4090 (that dipped to 10-20fps 0.1% lows, very inconsistent and massive stuttering from time to time) as I saw this first hand doing the same test. Make sure to have MPO disabled, because Windows is largely responsible for the frametime spikes and amd radeon suffers far less than nvidia when fixing it by having mpo disabled (so everything is rendered at once vs individually). Ms is a dying dinosaur and unfortunately, windows 11 is forcing that crap down your throat with mpo enabled for everything (I'm still on win 10 and contemplating to switch to linux).

I'm currently running at -90mv core with 2750mhz and fast timings on vram with -10% PL. It only bumped up vram mem with 2C (to around 65C average with 27C ambient temp, currently very hot summer with heat wave) unlocked fps and 54C average with 60fps locked. I get +8% vs stock at 90% W. Wh3 was also stable with -120mv, but not other programs, hitting > 3GHz, but found 2800-2900Mhz to be fully stable.

In short, especially for amd radeon users, disable mpo (you can download MPO FIX from github, then enable "mpo fix" and I also suggest to put amd shader cache to "ON"). This will also fix choppy/stuttering main menu issues, if you suffer from this.

For people contemplating what to buy, buy 9070 (xt) if you don't want to be disappointed. Butter smooth experience on 3440x1440 ultrawide with ULTRA settings AND EXTREME shadows. It never dips below 60fps on IE campaign map. It never micro stutters unlike nvidia, even with 4090.
