I find it strange there's no discussion of it but it looks like there's a fundamental change in the IMF in the playtest.

It's mostly in terms of weaponry, gone are the western weapons (M16s, M4s and more importantly the FALs. It should be noted that the MEI received them all, maybe they were traded for oil money) and instead you get every flavor of Eastern weapon from old Mosins to wood-furniture AK-74s with scopes to AK-12 with foregrips and sights. It seems like they're largely losing their long-range Battle Rifle abilities and replacing them with a large, linear variety of automatic long rifles and carbines.

it's interesting because it seems to reflect a shift in design too, gone are the 1999-inspired Serbian rebels and in its place seems to be a mix of various Slavic civilians (Tracksuited Ivanovichs with SKS and Tokerevs), with integrated special forces "advisors" (those with AK-12s, modern pistols and other high-speed low-drag specialty weapons) which is more indicative of both Federation-backed separatists groups and rebel client states within the Fed sphere of influence. Funnily enough, this is much closer to the original time-frame (mid-late 2010s) of the game's setting.

While it does help it differentiate from the MEI in a big way, it does kinda feel like the faction got replaced with a similar one with different gunplay and a similar overall macro. I do imagine this was either done to more realistically represent forces in the area, or perhaps to give the upcoming AFU something more familiar to fight. It could also be done in the playtest AS a greyboxed prototype for the AFU. Either way I'd imagine it does feel a bit closer to REDFOR on the micro, though maybe that's intentional.

The entire point of these games relies on being able to re-farm areas. If you change that then you change the whole spirit of TQ and any game like it.

Killers would tunnel less if generators didn't get repaired so fast and healing was slower. Until that problem is solved tunneling will never stop.
