Over 100 invites from bots in less than 24 hours.
Are you ♥♥♥♥ing kidding me, Steam?!

So I wasn't selling anything on the market except some trading cards for like the last 2-3 months and I only got maybe 5 invites in that time. Yesterday I've put a CS:GO knife on the market and I already got over 100 invites from bots and multiple comments on my profile containing dangerous links in less than 24 hours!

Its because the bots themselves. Decline almost all invites from private profiles with lvl 0. And possibly over lvl 0 as phishers can be also infected computers or simply players.

I block all of them.

I don't want to make my profile friends only, nor should I have to. Steam needs to do something about those bots. This ♥♥♥♥ has been going on for years and its only getting worse. Just another example of Steam's pathetic customer support. It looks like they just don't give a ♥♥♥♥.

First of all Valve removed all profile information from market listings to circumvent this problem, so I'm not sure how all these bots are finding you.

Can you provide a link to back up your words? Because I don't think they ever actually said it. They just silently removed profile links from the market. I remember that theory going around right after that happened, but already then it was obvious that it does not stop bots from adding you through the market.

I only get this many invites whenever I put a CS:GO knife on the market.
The proof is that all market listings contain no profile information other than an icon. The problem is that your profile is open to the world which means every scumbag out there is gonna target you, it's unfortunate but true. Now I'm not defending Valve in anyway and there needs to be changes to this dysfunctional ecosystem, however there is only so much they can do in terms of people adding you.

Very true statement.
Just set your profile to "friends only". People you wish to trade with could just add you.

This is not the proof. To me it looks more like Valve wants people to sell their items rather than trading them.

I say it again. I only get this many invites whenever I put a CS:GO knife on the market. So it is obvious that bots are targeting people with expensive items on the market.

Are you kidding me?! I don't get paid by Valve to work on this issue, and even I can come up with a few ways to fight this problem off the top of my head. Like disabling the ability to add people for at least level 0 profiles and profiles with 0 games.

It does help vs item beggars, it does not help vs bots because somehow they can still see who added item.

make your profile friends only with comments disabled= problem solved.
Incorrect advice.

Having a Level 121 profile might say TARGET too huh? To hide it publicly, makes it even less worth having. Curious at Level 121 how many profile friends or bot slots is that? Maybe they feel you're not up to quota? Only 70 friends.

For the third time.

Do you work for Steam as a support by any chance? Because all they do is copy paste faq links.

Add in the report suspected bot / scammer, add proof of multiple accounts if you can.
Or what they said or did, requests, links etc.

Look for signs of multiple same name, and same avatar bot accounts in the Steam Group Search

Groups > Browse Groups > Individuals

Watch them end up with a Community Ban, where they will just open more Steam bot account. Weeeeeee!

Are you saying I should report every single bot that adds me? Over 100 invites in less than 24 hours. Are you insane?

Messaggio originale di Patrick:
Whoa @ Some guy looking at your profile on http://steamrep.com you have many friends with banned friends, I'd dump them guilt by association lol.

I was doing it at first, but then I just said screw it. Doesn't worth my time.

Thats is the only way Valve gets rid of the known ones..yes it is insane.

I already proposed a couple of ways to get stop those bots from spamming invties. It's absolutely useless to ban them, because they will just make more accounts.

Messaggio originale di Patrick:
Insane, ask your self how many of those friends with banned freinds do you need tied to your friends list? insane?

Actually, I am not really friends with any of them, so none.

Guilt by association, and linked by association ?

Are you seriously for guilt by assiociation? Is Randi Harper your best friend by any chance?

Sorry, I am being a little cranky.

Messaggio originale di Patrick:
Anyway compaining around here is not going to fix it. You have to be a bit proactive. Have a good one!

Considering this has been going on for years, it seems like whining and complaining is the only way this is going to be fixed.

oh, did the bots finally figure out how to get the profile over the market now without a direct link? :D

only solution, also remove the picture.

So I made my profile friends only for the night, and of course it didn't help. 36 invites from bots.

It doesn't matter if your profile is public, friends only, or private. The "add" button is always there.
Ultima modifica da [ACE] Dimaleth; 3 gen 2015, ore 0:46
Not sure if anyone brought it up yet, but making your profile friends only doesn't fix it. The bots still get you.

I'm thinking they have a database of words corrosponding with the items so the bots can find and add anyone who has that item.
