Every time I open a game Internet Explorer opens a window.
This started happening yesterday after I had to re-install Google Chrome. Every time I launch a game on steam or join a server on a game multiple Internet explorer windows open. I have tried everything I could think of to fix it. I have scanned with Malwarebytes multiple times, System Restored to a couple of days ago when it wasn't happening, I have also restored my registry to an older back up. I have no idea what could be causing this and it's really annoying anyone have any ideas?

do you have some background software running? maybe something that can trigger that?
Also dose the internet browser load any page?
Try to update the GPU drives?

I don't have anything else running other than Steam, Teamspeak, and my Audio Driver. All it does when it opens the browser is open the homepage.

Really odd, only thing i can think abut is something mess up, and when you run the game the console command is send to the windows explorer that open it as a web that then open the game
Even that i really cant say why...

PS what OS are you on?

You said you needed to re install google chrome on what site was you when it asked for this?

since it should only ask about this when you start the pc and gets connection to the net
if the search browser then are outdated it will ask you automatic if you want to update without you clicked on internet if sets to auto update

I re-installed using www.google.com/chrome. I only re-installed it because I was having problems with my extensions getting corrupted not because it asked me to update.

I'm on Windows 7 64 bit Ultimate. I think if I can't figure it out by tomorrow I might just re-format because this install is pretty old anyway.

Hi, I'm having the exact same problem. I've tried everything. I have to uninstall all internet browsers to play any games. Very annoying. Did you find a solution?
It's possible that when you un-installed Chrome Windows decided to re-set IE as your default browser, and for some reason it's now associating all sorts of links with IE and attempting to open them with that browser.

Find the section of your options where you "choose default programs", and check to see if IE is set to attempt to open things it shouldn't. Control Panel/Network and Sharing Center/Internet Options, specifically the "Programs" tab there, where you'll be able to select default programs.

You could also go into IE itself and check to make sure it's not the default browser, and change any other settings you see that might be relevant. Ditto for Chrome, making sure that it's the default if that's what you want.

I don't *know* that this will fix your problem, but it's a good place to start. Good luck. :)

If I remember correctly I went to Control Panel>All Control Panel Items>Default Programs>Set Default Programs (this is what the path is on Windows 10 I can't remember if it's the same on Windows 7 because I upgraded) click on Google Chrome in the programs list>set this program as default and then also Google Chrome>Choose defaults for this program and set every possible file type in the list to use chrome. I can't remember if that's exactly what I did but it was at least something similar to that.

Hi thanks for the replies. I've looked at default programs and nothing looks untoward. I changed everything to google chrome but now it just opens google chrome when playing. It seems whatever protocol http is set to then that is what will open during gameplay!
