Steam community and what its about
Hey guys, much love...

Some of you are really awsome people and I really enjoy engaging with those awesome people... thank you for being you.

So, since I've been dingged for making something off topic... I suppose more then looking at whats off topic I should also look at whats on topic.

What would you guys consider to be on topic for 'Steam Community'?

To me, I'd think its topics about the community encompassing steam. We people here who come and talk. About us and our conduct and community goings and experiences, to at least some degree though it seems I am incorrect.

If there is perhaps somewhere where these forum titles are already defined, I would greatly appreciate if someone directed me to that.

It was supposed to be a dating forum, but they fat fingered "Steamy" and just never fixed it.

Besides Off Topic and the language specific forums, most of the generic Steam boards don't have a clearly defined purpose and it frankly doesn't matter too much where you post. I also rarely see mods move threads around in the generic boards, because well, it doesn't really matter as I said.

Steam Community forum was originally used for posting feedback for the then-debuted New Steam Community. The purpose hasn't changed, but a lot of other stuff made its way here over the years due to ambiguity.

interesting, so then why would someone get a ban for posting in the supposed wrong spot if staff can move it? I mean, I'd get if staff are having to move it frequently but like... once or twice? I dont see why someone should get in trouble for that.

I'm confused with some of the rules, example:
- Off topic thread can be locked because going... off topic.
- Threads lasting a few years, now get locked "to avoid confusion" after 3 months since last post, when they had 4+ months delays earlier without problem.
Maybe better lock it to avoid further confusion

that certainly sounds odd. I mean, off topic threads should still have some degree of constraint so I get them not wanting 'off topic' threads to stay on their specific topic.

However, if there is anything I'd complain about, whats said here covers it well.

Steam the platform makes decent money, yes? and I can probably go through and identify that steam has at least 5 moderator staff. I've spoken with a few of them, can probably go count the many names I've gotten but the point is its at least a hand full of people overseeing the forum.

or is it that handful who oversees the entirety of steam? I know some companies are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and do that sort of ♥♥♥♥, using a skeleton crew if they can get away with it, less labor cost means more money overall.

Ultimately though, its we who suffer for it. It would be helpful to know if its just bad conflict resolution policies or a desperate attempt to mitigate open conflicts so as to keep work load down due to lack of labor.

Over 40 support moderator accounts by my last count. More being created each month.

You’ll most commonly see them making the final post in threads that get locked.

New accounts made specifically for the new moderator staff. Just like any other user account except with moderator privileges.

Ah, ok, so you mean new moderators are indeed showing up on steam.

Good. well, 40 is quite a lot... I know some forum moderation is algorithmic too, so like... why?

It's pretty straightforward.

Steam Commnunity literally means something directly pertinent to the Steam community. So something about how steam works, things or actions within the Steam platform and so on.

If you're in doubt, stick it in Off Topic. Done.

All I can tell you is not what it was originally for, but what it's used for now. And it's dead easy to demonstrate because all you need to do is rea\d the threads currently there, and they are as I said aren't they?
