We're talking about the media conglomerate... Right?

Because you make it sound like tencent is some kind of program...

Tencent only has spyware in TicTok, as everyone with a brain already knows, but as a Chinese company all Chinese companies are owned by the Chinese government who spies on their people. Just because Tencent owns part of a game company doesn't mean that it is spyware. Digital Extremes the company who developed Warframe is partially owned by Tencent but DE still has full control over game development.

games usually have an eula and/or privacy policy. in there is mentioned what data is collected and how it is processed that is a legal requirement in many places o nthe planet.
obviously if a 3rd parties are involved, they are not directly named.

Warframe f.e. still collects a decent amount of data that is not anonymized and shared with 3rd parties, including their parents Leyou and Tencent.

To be honest if Tencent put spyware in everything they touch it would cause an international incedent that would be a nightmare for anyone.

Wonder if OP plays any Riot games? They are 100% owned, not just minority like a game company we like to pick on.

Nah, the common response is "do your due diligence and know what you're buying/installing".

Exactly! So why doesn't Steam make this easier by letting us know that the following software contains so and so?
They do. It's, however, up to the developers/publishers to actually input the information you seek.

You do realize Tencent is a company and not a thing you 'install'

Like your FUD is so painfully bad you're not even hiding your sinophobia

Your 'proof' is that Tencent has a cloud based voip solution? Wow that's it? Do you know how Skype works? Steam by your definition is spyware ffs

So in actuality Steam doesn't if it's down to somebody else.
Of course not. Store pages are nothing different than the physical boxes the cds were in. Was the store the one who put all the info on the box? No.

All the tools are there, it's up to the developers/publishers to utilise them.

So it's a bad idea to offer customers on Steam this information as they do DRM, because we're somehow stuck within the confines of how software on CDs were distributed?
Not what was being said.

Who do you think inputs that DRM info? The developers/publishers. Again, all the tools are there, the developers/publishers merely have to utilise it.

You're addressing the wrong party.

Why are people so afraid that the Chinese government gets their data? Unless you want to go to China, there is little they can do.

On the other hand it's well known that western companies give access to western intelligence agencies more or less voluntarily and they do everything to undermine privacy. I'd be far more afraid about what my own state can do to me with my data. Especially if I don't trust them enough to protect me from the Chinese.

Look, I know there's this apathy toward it and that people who question it are ridiculed, but this only heightens my interest and leaves me questioning the psychological side of the response. I voluntarily installed Steam and if you were paying attention I didn't claim anything was spyware, merely controversial.

Its amazing that "I'm a sinophobic racist but its your fault that you're mad that I am an ignorant buffoon" is your excuse

know there's talk that it behaves like spyware,

Oh but no you never said it was spyware. Like REALLY BUDDY your post is right there. If you're wondering about the 'response' maybe the part where you're lying all the time is part of hte problem

Tencent IS LITERALY CHINA OWNED. What part about that do you NOT UNDERSTAND. You then speak about spyware. Which is used to.......collect data for sell or use. Like holy crap you're dense.

You're the commodity now. And the typical vitriol that floods near every post and topic of discussion just exacerbates the issue.
