For me the true "power" of Steam is its extensiveness. I love seeing mutual "whines" (IMO anyway) in several communities, I enjoy seeing people complain "no other game does this!" to which I can respond with "I beg to differ, see this link" and I really enjoy seeing how many problems within some of my favorite games are honestly not excluded to those games, not at all actually!
This is why I love playing on Steam, it's versatility and its true diversity. Take those away and there wouldn't be a compelling reason for me to play here, I'll take Solitaire over that mess thank you very much.
Sheluser nailed it.
When allowed only one game for the rest of my life, I see myself quitting gaming alltogether.
LOL.

The better question would be "To what games are you circling back all the time after playing various other games in your seemingly endless backlog?"
At least that is my modus operandi. I would be bored to death, only playing one game.
My "circling back games" are Skyrim and Fallout 4 with heavy modding. And some space sim games like Rebel Galaxy and the X series. with mods, too.
Do you do the "iron men" challenges ? One save - no respawns if you die ?
S.x.
There are a few that I would seriously consider though, and many would not be Steam present. Minecraft, obviously, as the bang for buck is beyond anything else can offer.
If I was forced to choose just one, I might even consider going back to classic WOW, again bang for buck and longevity.
But there's also the Witcher 3, or Shadow Man, or Jet Set Willy (ZX Spectrum version). Too many to consider really.
