[NfS-Payback]No Auto-Transmission during Drag Race?

My gearbox is set to Auto, with Auto Reverse.
It works nicely, no complaints in general.
Until I get a straight line drag race, all of the sudden i need to use Right CTRL to shift up and Right Shift to gear down.
Erm?
How came this is happening?
Anyway to circumvent this, as I am quite a bad shifter in games?

Also: Lotus Exige S Drag has no Wheelie Bar option?
Is this correct?

Drag races are all about getting the right point to shift up. A perfect shift will grant you a small boost while a bad shift will lose you time. Automatic is useless in this mode if you want to win.

Always been this way since Underground.
