(BTW: I'm on a Intel Win 10 laptop and I don't know if you're on a PowerPC Mac)
I would switch browsers that are supported, Firefox, Chrome, Edge, etc..
So, if you're using Internet Explorer, that browser is being phased out and doesn't support alot of the newer website componentry and newer thingamajigs.
Steam: All News:

Steam News Hub: Powered by Steam Labs

Thanks I appreciate that but it has nothing to do with the browser. As I said it's the Steam client that has the blank pop-ups.
The news at those links does not list the deals that are being advertised as "News" by the client when it first opens after the daily system updates.
even you library is a local website now.
the chat is a locally off-rail updated website
and the entire rest are just websites.
steam settings -> webbrowser -> delete cache.
main window -> view -> update news
wuddih thank you. That was exactly what I was looking for. The link in the client that opens the news window. I will keep an eye on the cache in future but
"main window -> view -> update news"
was exactly what I was asking for.
I couldn't see it in the drop down no matter how hard I looked. I'm so obviously a guy. ;)
Thanks again.
:)
.. I was just testing you if you knew too and you did

Anywho, thanks for heads up W :-)
Wonder why the client doesn't automatically clear out the cache on exit or something so that it doesn't reoccur so much...
