Every game created with Unity engine crashing my PC
All games created with Unity are crashing. No problem with games from UE4. Cant find solution anywhere.
My specs
Windows 10
Radeon R9 270x
I5 4960
16gb Ram

"-force-d3d9" trick doesnt work

Games crash randomly, sometimes 2 min into gameplay sometimes 1hour into gameplay.
When game crashes my screen locks up with a pattern on the screen and a continuous buzzing sound.

That does not happen with Unreal engine games.

Ctrl-Alt-Del doesnt work. PC needs to be rebooted. Its been going like this for a very long time now.
Its driving me crazy. So many good Unity games I cant play.

I got so excited to see if the Xbox game bar would fix it. No luck.

Like many others, all unity games hard crash or hard lock my machine since randomly in the middle of summer 2020.

It's not the citrix issue.
Are you running any sort of a Citrix tool/app on your PC?

Lately, Unity and Citrix really have not been liking each other.
I have this problem since yestarday.
I have found out that at least 2 Unity games on Win 7 stopped working (Cities Skyline works), and yet, they worked until two days ago...

I read about Citrix problem, but I never heard of that software until today, so it's not a problem :/.
How long have you waited when the system locks up? If you don't force-reboot it yourself, it may end up writing a crash dump (which will then help diagnose the situation).
I've tried the xbox bar fix it didn't work.I don't have citrix. And i tried updating directx too.Any other suggestions?
Having problems too, all my unity games reboots my system within one hour. Not a single problem with no unity games. Mini healers, the forest, valheim, Anima are some exemples.

My specs:
windows 10
RTX 2060
I7 9th gen
16 gb ram

I tried to solve this for so long without success that i'm going to the path of not buying unity games anymore :(
That feel when you are having an issue and there isn't a solid solution.

You aren't alone friends

Agreed. I'm 90% sure it's Unity games.
Valheim, The Painscreek Killings, and Verdun.
try to turn off every possible overlay/notification/popup application, for example FLUX, msi afterburner(+rivatunner), xbox game bar, geforce experience, origin... even discord can cause this problem
And here we go, 2021 september around the corner and games still crashing. (dunno about the op tho) This issue is pretty ****ing annoying and indeed happens on unity based games only. Seriously wtf? everything else my pc can handle and usually without a sweat too (me on the other hand.... well let's not get to that), but not a single unity game. Well done on their end.
This is really making me just move on to another games mostly, which is bit sad for those actually good games done in that engine. And sure, it might be some miss match on softwares or overlays or something. But let me remind you, it happens only on those unity games. Other games have those overlays and other softwares on and no problems. And when it crashes, it takes the pc down with it, not just crash to desktop but straight to bsod.

All i'm saying is, how can't they find on unity's end what's causing this? I bet they have been getting the reports. And as you might read from my rant that i'm getting really frustrated on this and i bet i'm not alone. Strenght to you all who suffer from this same thing... and those who don't have this problem but read all this, i hope you had a laugh at least.

half of the games on Steam are done in Unity.
this cannot be any big or general problem on the engines end, otherwise there would be much more noise. so this is on yours end truly.

general recommendation:
get a local to troubleshoot it and at best, format c, fresh reinstall.

Why leave a comment when you have no new information or insight to add? You think we haven't tried fresh installs?

The issue may be rare, but I've spent an exhaustive amount of time ( And I'm sure the others have too) trying to correct the random crash issue for Valheim and Risk of Rain 2. Disabling overlays did a lot to help crash frequency, but was not a total fix. Hang in there brothers.
For a while I thought it was a Citrix thing because I use something similar for work, which is VMware Horizon. But I couldn't find anything online that describes the issue we're having.
The next game I bought and has since crashed is Zero Hour, I'm gonna try to disable Nvidia overlay in the next couple of weeks and see if anything else in Unity breaks.

Simple answer - if we can't find the answer then it's possible they can't find it either. It's easy to assume that because they developed it, they will have all the answers. That ain't necessarily the case.

It could be something really weird they can't track down. It could be a really niche issue and they haven't found out what the variables required are because of poor data from users. Any host of possibilities.

Have you considered contactin the Unity devs themselves?
