If you want one...play CSGO. It has most of the community on it. That is the latest version of the game.

CS:GO and CS:Source are both good games, either way.
One real difference between the two: CSS has huge, laggy hitboxes with heavy recoil, while CSGO has tiny hitboxes with light recoil. Comparing the M4A1-S's recoil between both versions is downright insane, and even moreso when comparing with CS1.6!
The fact that they priced CSGO so much lower is a real sign they want to kill off CSS. I don't think Valve considers it a failure like the community does, but it's telling nonetheless.
There's no point in getting Source, it's considered the worst in the franchise. Well, Deleted Scenes and Nexon are the real worst ones, but that's besides the point. The only reason you'd want to play it is for the custom mod servers. 1.6 is better in every way, and CSGO is arguably even better than 1.6. I used to know where a good 1.6 vs CSS video was, but I think it's gone now.
Like I said, the main difference is with the hitbox sizes and amount of recoil on each gun. It's not noticeable at first, but after playing for about a month on one game, it'll be next-to-impossible to play the other.
Yes.

But CounterStrike: Global and CounterStrike 1.6 are the two most played games of the CS series.
OP:
If you look here: http://store.steampowered.com/stats you can see what the most played games are on Steam.
I just have a ton of fond memories of that game, back when I cared to have friends on Steam. We would all get together, and just pull the dumbest plans together, confusing the hell out of the other team. Plus, it is stil very playable.
