How many hours do you need to get out of a game for you to feel good about spending the money on it?
for me it differs as i`m sure it does for everyone
obviously there are variables (price, length of main story etc)

whaddya think?

As long as it averages out to less than $2 per hour I spend playing it, I consider it good for the money.

Depends on the game I suppose. But Id say 15ish depending on game type ofc.
Really depends on the game...

If it is a linear or semi-linear game I will usually wait for it to go on sale for under $20 as those rarely last more than one playthrough and are often way under 15 hours...

But the open world games with multiple paths, high replay value, mod support and such, I usually have no problem paying more for.

Though usually I like to get at least 15-20 hours out of a game costing under $40usd new. Games that give me 50 to endless hours, I will pay much more for if it can keep me entertained that long.

I pretty much throw money at "Bethesda Softworks" and "Cd Projekt Red" and "2K/Gearbox Games" at this point. Used to throw money at anything Bioware and Pandemic and Westwood and Maxis till EA got their evil tentacles all up in their bidness.

I don't judge by the time, I judge by the enjoyment.

I've played games that only last and hour or two, that I realy enjoyed, just as I have played games that last 10 hours, then wonder why I bought it.

It's not about the length of the game, it's about how awesome the game is while you play it. I'd rather have a fantastic ~2-4 hour experience (i.e. Hotline Miami) than a mediocre ~10-12 hour experience (i.e. BioShock Infinite).

About 3-4 hours, if it's an rpg, then I better get at least a couple months worth of gaming, unless it's undertale :3

Depends on the price. If the game is short but I feel like I can get a good few replays out of it, I'd shell out $20. If the game is open world I don't care really, I'd pay $60 as long as it's fun.

I like spending roughly a dollar an hour or less. That's easy for me because if I like a game I'll often play through it at least three times.

Way I figure it, the few truly BAD games I've played are more than made up for by the good ones, though, so I don't really worry about it too much. Only one game is an exception, and I'm sure the game was okay, Silent Hunter 5, but Uplay was not so I had to settle accounts by mailing them a fart in a jar.

I have higher demands than you guys in this thread. To feel like I spent my money well I need:

60 hours out of a $20 g
100 hours out of a $60 g

60 out of a 20 dollar game seems a lot for me but i think 100 out of a 60 dollar game is reasonable honestly or at least more along the lines of how I feel. If i shell out 60 dollars for an open world or for say the newest year of a sports game I would either way like to get many many hours.

I do like the poeple who think of it by the hour though and a couple of dollars an hour or less is great IMO. Think of it like you are spending quarters at an arcade.

I rarely judge based on duration.

Was the experience fun and what I was looking for? Money well spent.

Was the play experience horrid and not what I was looking for? Money I should have just tossed on a bonfire.

What if it's a really fun game that lasted less than an hour and put you out $10 and had no replayability?

Hmmm... I find this concept of a fun game having no replay strange. I replay 30 year old games all the time, and a lot of them are really fun but short.

But, since we are doing it this way.. I will assume this game is like that old creepy pasta game, and instead of deleting itself, it just become unfum after the first play thru. Yes. $10.00 for an hour of fun is pretty good, given I will drop $20 on going out to a 2 hour long movie.

If it's a console game, it is just all about enjoyment for me. If I don't like it, I regret it. If I love it, I won't ever regret it.

For PC it's a different story. When I buy a game I don't expect to play it for much more then 5-6 hours now, because after that I will go back to my old multiplayer games (CS:GO, League of Legends, Guild Wars 2 etc) If I do play it for more, then I would say that the game is absolutely worth just because it got me away for that long from my favorite games.

For instance, I picked up Pokemon X the other day. I continuously found myself wanting to play that instead of a multiplayer game with my friends, and I got about 20 hours in it in 4 days.

In the end, it's just about enjoyment for however long I play it. The time is irrelevant, because I'd rather spend $10 on a awesome game that I will play for 2 hours then a terrible game I'll play for 50 hours.

It's simple for me. Did I have fun? Yes or No regardless of the time spent. I like games with replayablility, New Game + is always a good laugh :D
