wuddih showed you an unbiased one, I'll tell you my opinion.

ARK is better overall. It has a lot of content and many different maps. On some servers you can even go between different maps as they are tied together. The only issue is performance and file size (over 100GB of storage needed).

Rust, there is no off-line play to practice or play around, with out running your own server in some way. You don't get to make your character or even choose the sex or race. You get what you get and that is it.

Ark is quite an experience. Grindy as hell but well worth it. Befriending velociraptors is very very cool.
