Is a cosair 430w powerful enough
Is my cosair 430w modular power supply powerful enough to run a sapphire 270x 4gb gpu?

First off, wrong forum.
But, as far as I can tell, that won't be enough, you should also consider cpu, and other things.
Spanky 6 AGO 2016 a las 12:46
No if you build a computer that for preformance you need at least 850Watts.
wuddih 6 AGO 2016 a las 12:48
a 270x draws about 180 watts alone and any psu nearly never reaches 100% stability under full load. i personally would not hook up anything from amd on a psu less then 550/600watts.

cpu?

EDIT..The great mods on Steam have moved the thread. Thank you Steam moderators.

And the efficiency rating of a PSU must be taken into account also. If you get a junk less-than-silver PSU that claims 430 Watts, now do the math and (being nice) take into account it is only 70% efficient.

.70 X 430 = 301

So you (on a good day when it is new, as they degrade over time) you only have about 300 Watts to play with.

I added it up right thank you very much. If you consider all the preformance tweaks like high end gpu and cpu and coolor fans not to mention the fact that these all can be OC'd

I would build a computer with that gpu anyway.

I've used that gpu before. Worked fine with 450w antec with g2020 and 2 hdd.

Maybe so, but OP may have a $29 ebay PSU that claims to be rated at 430 Watts. Not all PSUs are created equal. Yours is gold rated, perhaps ?

The OP's may not even be silver rated.

it has little to do with the "silver" or "gold" rating thats just an effienciency rating.., it's all about how they decide to "market" the 450 watts , since there's no standart for that , some PSU's manufacturers use combined wattage on all outputs , where as like alot of seasonics their wattage is from the 12v line only....mine is a gold rated X650 and does 648 watts just on the 12volt line...(if you would combine mine like alot of cheaper manufacturers do mine is closer to an 800 watt)

So you are saying that if user A has one that is less than silver (around 70% perhaps) and user B has one that is Platinum rated (93% efficient, manufacturer stated in specs), that means almost nothing ?

not much because the 100% rating between silver and platinum is only 4% (at 115 volt) and 6% (230 volts) , so at like 430 watts it'll be 17 watts (115 volts) orso ...or about 1,5 amps on the 12v line.

and effiecency rating are certified...however there are companies that "cheat" the certifications... you can look the PSU up on the plus80 website to see hwich one are certified and which ones just outright lie about their certification

components and what it's made out of is everything. it also costs more to manufacture
Rumpelcrutchskin 6 AGO 2016 a las 15:35
You need two 6-pin PCI-E connectors for R9 270X, Corsair CX 430 has one.
R9 270X needs 24A on +12V rails and takes average 180W, CX 430 provides 32A.
You could in principle run it with Intel rig and use 6-pin to two molex plugs adapter instead of second 6-pin PCI-E but it's cutting it kinda close.
Best would be to get new 550-600W PSU with two 6+2 pin PCI-E connectors, at least bronze certified.

It's only one tier below mine was, and still not garbage tier yet. As long as op doesn't do anything demanding like overclock or add more than 1 hdd + fan, it should be fine.

He does need a better one, but his current one should be fine as long as he's careful.
