Allow international gifts by including an extra fee on purchase.
I know i'm not the only one that really wishes I could gift to international friends.

For example: I live in Mexico and I want to give a gift to a friend in UK, but steam doesn't allow it.

So I suggest: Allow me to buy the game, but include a fee to compensate for the differences in currency rate. I'm willing to even pay a little extra if it means I can send my gift to my friend. That way, people can't abuse the system.

It would be greatly appreciated if a feature like this, or other option to allow international gifting, was implemented.

This system could still be abused so it probably won't happen.

Not if you had to pay the extra fee that would've been lost by gifting the game in the first place. The whole reason why it was blocked is because I could setup two accounts, one in the US and my account in the UK. Games in the US are cheaper than in the UK so I could use that account to gift the game to myself in the UK but I would've saved money because I purchased the game in the US instead of the UK. If there was some sorta fee thing it would solve this issue, honestly it's a shame we cannot just pay the same price everywhere; would solve 99% of these problems.
I do agree on the idea, and i think will be great if added

Wha...?

When i read this i thought "Wow, so glad we have that gifting system that allows you to gift items to friends..."
Basically having more expensive, worldwide accessible editions of a game which have no regional restriction whatsoever...?

Well, I wouldn't mind these. Not that I think I'll ever use one, however it could be interesting for those who travel a lot.

Please do include upgrades to "worldwide edtion", much like there are upgrade to GOTY edition for some games.
I deleted my original thread that was as follows, as there already are some. I don't find new ones with a quick search, so I necro this. Apologies:

Gifting fee (opt-in) that allows gifting from cheaper regions
Hi! My girlfriend lives in the United States and I live in the European Union. She wanted to gift me something, but couldn't because of regional pricing. She expressed that she would gladly have paid the higher price if it meant she could gift it.

So my idea: Can a gifting fee be implemented that brings cheaper games to a price where they can be gifted?
Obviously that would have to be an opt-in each time, with a separate click or checkbox or something, but it shouldn't be impossible, I think?

Like, at the popup where it says that the gifting isn't possible, it could say:
"If you want to gift this anyway, additional funds will be deducted from your Steam Wallet, for a total price of X. Click here to accept this. [] Click here if you are really sure you want to gift this game for a higher price. The gifting fee is non-refundable if the gift is accepted and not refunded. []"
And clicking those both would take people to the payment screen with the price plus gifting fee where they once more have to confirm the purchase for the higher price.

Or something like that.

I know that this is a feature very few people would use, but it would allow international gifting without abuse again. And yes, I know digital gift cards for Steam Wallet are a thing. :-)
They can't do that. I'm sure they would love to let you give them more money if it was that simple. :betsy: But people would complain about a bait-and-switch after seeing a game on sale for a cheap price, adding it to their cart to send it to a friend, and then suddenly the price goes up. Legally, they must charge you the price that they advertise to you. "But I'm opting in" doesn't matter because people will try to sue anyway.
Can't they just add a clause on each store page? "Gifting prices can be higher."

This would be called a bait and switch and is super duper illegal in the UK and EU

Because those are not goods. The UK has extremely strict guidelines on how you can or cannot advertise the price of an item.

Thats different than a financial transaction

Nope, traders can charge for additional services, in this case it would be a gifting service fee, and as long as it is specifically selected (not pre-ticked) by the purchaser, it would be legal for Valve to create a Gifting Service that includes a Fee in which the user must select themselves.

So yes, Valve can do it if they want to and still be with in the laws.

Charges for additional services
You must give your consent to any additional payment requested by the trader, for example express delivery, gift wrapping or travel insurance.

A trader is not allowed to charge you for these services unless you explicitly selected them. Using a pre-ticked box on the trader's website does not constitute consent, so you would be entitled to have any payment reimbursed which has been collected in that way.

In your haste to make a point you missed the actually wording.

You must give your consent to any additional payment "REQUESTED" by the trader and the thread is about wanting the option to pay additional charges and not Valve "requesting" additional charges to gift as that is not an option.

Secondly that document is information for consumers and not a mandate on companies to set up a gifting option be it Valve or any other company.

the EU law is not applicable to what is requested here, not even in the slightest.
