When i read this i thought "Wow, so glad we have that gifting system that allows you to gift items to friends..."
Well, I wouldn't mind these. Not that I think I'll ever use one, however it could be interesting for those who travel a lot.
Please do include upgrades to "worldwide edtion", much like there are upgrade to GOTY edition for some games.
Gifting fee (opt-in) that allows gifting from cheaper regions
Hi! My girlfriend lives in the United States and I live in the European Union. She wanted to gift me something, but couldn't because of regional pricing. She expressed that she would gladly have paid the higher price if it meant she could gift it.
So my idea: Can a gifting fee be implemented that brings cheaper games to a price where they can be gifted?
Obviously that would have to be an opt-in each time, with a separate click or checkbox or something, but it shouldn't be impossible, I think?
Like, at the popup where it says that the gifting isn't possible, it could say:
"If you want to gift this anyway, additional funds will be deducted from your Steam Wallet, for a total price of X. Click here to accept this. [] Click here if you are really sure you want to gift this game for a higher price. The gifting fee is non-refundable if the gift is accepted and not refunded. []"
And clicking those both would take people to the payment screen with the price plus gifting fee where they once more have to confirm the purchase for the higher price.
Or something like that.
I know that this is a feature very few people would use, but it would allow international gifting without abuse again. And yes, I know digital gift cards for Steam Wallet are a thing. :-)
This would be called a bait and switch and is super duper illegal in the UK and EU
Because those are not goods. The UK has extremely strict guidelines on how you can or cannot advertise the price of an item.
Thats different than a financial transaction
In your haste to make a point you missed the actually wording.
You must give your consent to any additional payment "REQUESTED" by the trader and the thread is about wanting the option to pay additional charges and not Valve "requesting" additional charges to gift as that is not an option.
Secondly that document is information for consumers and not a mandate on companies to set up a gifting option be it Valve or any other company.
Which EU law is that exactly?
