Favorite Friends Feature
Most people will end up adding a fair amount of people that play the same games as them, however these may not be 'real life' friends. As such, you probably don't care what game they're playing - you would just maybe check if they're playing when you decide to play.

My suggestion is the ability to 'favorite' your friends (eg. put a little star beside them). This would set notifications to ONLY pop up for those favorite friends, and not for others (a notification would still pop up for chat messages from anybody - but it would only notify you when your favourite friends start playing a game)

You can all ready favorite friends inside the Friend list window (Right click)

right click > manage > add to favorites
