battle royale needed 50+ and 2 years but that is due to the fact that they are manually moderated, not fully automated.

speaking of, br is X vs Y where as Y is a much larger number than X, asymmetrical?
i played csgo 1v5 regularly because of lowskill teammates, that would be asymmetrical?

by our world-wise knowledge book, wikipedia
Asymmetrical gameplay[en.wikipedia.org]

Asymmetrical multiplayer is a type of gameplay in which players can have significantly different roles or abilities from each other; enough to provide a significantly different experience of the game. In games with light asymmetry, the players share some of the same basic mechanics (such as movement and death), yet have different roles in the game; this is a common feature of the multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) genre such as League of Legends and DOTA 2, and in hero shooters such as Overwatch and Apex Legends. In games with stronger elements of asymmetry, one player/team may have one gameplay experience (or be in softly asymmetric roles) while the other player or team play in a drastically different way, with different mechanics, a different type of objective, or both. Examples of games with strong asymmetry include Dead by Daylight, Evolve, and Left 4 Dead.
l4d f.e. was (/still is) played 4v4
one reason why wikipedia fails. one dude just made this up and everybody else made their own fork for the term.
going by this, pretty much every damn multiplayer game - where not all players have the same set of tools, mechanics and conditions - would be asymmetrical.

speaking of every damn game, Asymmetric VR exists as a tag.

keep on tagging, maybe one day you get it in.

I guess I wouldn't consider a game asymmetrical because there are classes (at least if the other team has the same classes) or you pick a set of skills/equipment that everyone else (on both sides) can, or if the two sides have slightly different shotguns/assault rifles unique to each side (like CS:GO). I wouldn't consider any of those examples of "light asymmetry" as worth mentioning in a game tag (otherwise you get the useless "Strategy" tag effect where it seems to be applied to everything - I can only guess plenty of steam users consider choosing what to have for lunch as "Strategy") - a tag is only really useful if it excludes the vast majority of games, the lower the selectivity the less benefit there is of users searching by it.

Left 4 Dead definitely makes sense for me - playing as the zombies and survivors in the PvP mode is distinctly different, even if the sides are even in players. I don't think I would generally consider differences in number of players anything to do with whether the game is asymmetrical, although certain types of asymmetrical game design might pit 1 player with certain extra powers/abilities against the rest of the players on the server, etc., but I don't see different numbers of players as essential.
