Suggestion to change Game prices on STEAM for Hungarian gamers
Suggestion to change Game prices on STEAM for Hungarian gamers

Respectable STEAM Management

First time, I would like to introduce myself: My name is David (20), I am writing for you from Hungary. I bought my first game in 2009 (Counter Strike 1.6 Anthology) approximately 14 euro (in my country 14 euro is about 4000 forint).
The reason why i tell you this information I wanna tell you the difference between your countries and mine. So what i have to start?

Starting with this:
http://data.worldbank.org/indicator/NY.GDP.PCAP.CD

I know you know that your Country is economically advanced and the peoples whose lives in your countries, they can save more money and they are succesfully in their lives.

The last year data from the link:
  • United States GDP: 54,629.5 US$ (= Hungarian value: 16.388.600 Forint, about)

  • Hungary GDP: 14,028.7 US$ (= Hungarian value: 4.208.610 Forint, about)

And I wanna select one more country, namely: Russia

  • Russia GDP: 12,735.9 US$ (= Hungarian value: 3.820.500 Forint, about)

My reason to select Russia too, they can buy games more cheaper, at least 50% than my country.
Please, look the data:

My country GDP is not mutch more than Russia GDP. But we have to pay double money for games. In my country, we are live about 10 million. Economically we are not an advanced coutry. Too many people are without works and they can't find job too many times.
And that layer whose play with games average, little childrens or young adults, about 20-25 years.

Average earnings:
Approximately: 80-90.000 Forint (= 266-300 US$/month)

Average expense:
Approximately:
  • Bills: at least 50.000 Forint (= 166 US$/month) (300-166 = 134) / 40.200 Ft
  • Food: at least 15 - 25.000 Forint (50-83 US$/month) (134-50 = 84) / 25.200 Ft

Sport, Hobbies, if somebody fall in ill:

  • For sports, or other things: at least 5000 Forint (= 16,6 US$) (84-16,6 = 67,4) / 20.220 Ft

    Too many adult have disease:
  • to medicine: at least 10.000 or more Forint (= 33,3 US$) (67,4-33,33 = 34,07) / 10.200 Ft
So i save about 34,07 US$ to end of month (10.200 Ft)

Peoples more time to spend money themselves, so 34,07 US$ is too few to spend for just one thing. Thus, peoples dont want to buy original games because it is too expensive for us.
For excample: The new Tomb Raider Games (Rise Of Tomb Raider, my favorite Game)
On STEAM: 49.99 euro / 14.997 Forint about ( 10.200 --> 14.997, dont will work)
and in Russia: about 15-20 euro / 4500-6000 Forint

I think, this is a little discrimination. I think if the price to be the russians level, the Hungarian gamers layer would go to think to buy more games. I know it worth it for more gamers.
It worth for me to buy new games. Because I love the STEAM application, and love my accounts, because I can access easily to my games.

LESS PRICE, MORE COSTUMER, EQUAL MORE GAMER

Thank you to read this message!

Yours sincerely,
Dávid

Nobody cares.

That's why they removed Euro Tier 2 and set the prices from old Tier 1.

Because nobody cares.

The only thing you could do is to fight for european earnings.

They do too many problem themselves with the prices. That's why peoples using braking games and don't buy it. But with low price.. :) I think more costumer will coming.

I think the problem is here (and allow me to switch to hungarian as it happens to be my native language)

Oh believe me we would love to have normal salaries but yeah, sadly our political leading is awful for that (but lets not dvelve too much into this as its quite offtopic)

You may not care but people from our country do care, because we dont like getting royally screwed with this pricing while russians somehow get better pricing .

I know, first world problems, sure. Honestly if at least we could pay in HUF, that would be awesome because the main problems stems due to the currency difference that generates around 20 percent more expensive prices here.

I didn't say I don't care, since I'm from Tier 2 country too. Sure, regional currency would be the best way out but 1) publishers would need to set up even more prices, therefore making the games unpurchaseable before they do so (the same situation when some South American/SEA iirc countries got their own currency) and 2) EU wants 'equality', how you see this is up to you.

And 3) local currencies in Europe would be implemented a long time ago if not for common currency that is Euro.

Trust me. You are better off not having it in your currency. 8 out of 10 times when that gets done the prices increase.

And after 5 years steam database just released info they are adding 7 new currencies, Hungarian forint being one of them. I hope the pricing will be according to our sucky GDP, then I'd buy even more games. Previously I only bought from key sharing sites like g2a kinguin etcetc (because they were many times more than 80% percent cheaper)

Leaked months ago...

You'd better hope that the game devs/pubs set the prices for the new currencies being added otherwise, they'll be unavailable to purchase until they do.

So what if it was leaked months ago? Doesn't change anything -.-"

Also thats not how that works. On Epic store not many developers gave prices for the currencies, they just set a fix amount and converted all of them fyi

This is not Epic. On Steam, the devs/pubs must set the prices for every supported currency. Otherwise, it will be unavailable in those currencies.

AUD in 2018...

For the others in 2017...

And a snippet from the one in 2017...

If your products do not have pricing in these currencies, customers in the affected countries will no longer be able to purchase your products.

And the others in 2014...

polish zloty is about a 5% "discount" if Valves price suggestions is used ... so dont set your hopes on cheaper games too high.

also, the "leaked" currencies are not available on Steam, so no one can set any prices yet for them and if so, there will be no auto-conversion. everything has to be set manually.
you may expect this maybe happening towards the end of the year, not now. historically new currencies were mostly added in Q4.

Yeah Valve tends to lean towards everything being a deliberate choice on the part of the publishers. that way they remove themselves from any finger-pointing.

Wow this method seems pretty stupid then. But I guess every bigger developer will get to this, its not that big of a deal for them, as you can see on SteamDB, almost every game has all currencies set for them.
