option to prevent URL becoming link in chat
would like an option in steam chat to prevent something that looks like a URL being converted into a clickable link.

or maybe an option behind the ... menu to "remove hyperlink" so it'll just got back to plain text.

Do you have an example of something that isn't a url that is being set as a url? It sounds like something that is VERY VERY VERY uncommon.

Ok figured it was something like that, although its easily solved by using correct grammar in which you would have a space after the period.

I have no idea (other than Steam's generic incompetence) why the Noparse tag is a flaky as it is. Nice to see it that it worked in your test case. (For now, But I wouldn't be surprised if that turned into a link in the future.)

the lack of WYSIWYG editor in these forums does make for some entertaining edit cycles 🤭
good luck with the formatting!

I've been asking for a WYSIWYG editor for these forums even since day one. Don't think it's on anyone's scope to make some of us happy.

That bad parsing by the way can be potentially dangerous, since nefarious actors could register common punctuation mistakes and direct them to dangerous content, like malware, phishing, etc.

Well you'd have to still ignore the giant warning and click random links. Anyone can make a website in seconds and fill it with malware and paste a link afterall.

For anyone who's curious, those appear to be non-ASCII ISO codes that aren't really English letters as far as the computer is concerned, which is why they don't turn into clickable URL's. In fact, most browsers won't even recognize them as URL's even if you cut and paste them.
