Don't add options for hide friends, it's be bad idea.
When someone add u, you can't see who is friend with him also.
And you not ascept him because u think it's myb scammer and other stuff.

Guys this is not facebook.
Nobody care about your friends.
Just in info dont post your fb or instagram link and that is all.

Edit:
If everybody wana rly this option for check like "make friend list hiden"
I think steam after that need to make you can see "in common friends" if u have him in friend list or no. Because for more friendly community.

People can already hide their friends list using "Private Profile" - the only difference would be they could hide the friends list but still show other information.

So if anything, adding the option to hide just that part of the profile would give MORE information, not less.

Huh? You just explained to us that you (or others) do care. If it was true that "nobody cares about your friends", then you have nothing to worry about with regards to people not accepting friend requests.

There's a word for this...

I think that's probably a bug with your friends and will be fixed.

As for adding friends, I agree with that, if we played previously and they remember me but I don't remember them I have no idea what games we have in common so everyone will be ignored.

I also don't like the fact that griefers can now hide their game stats, a real issue in L4D2, they will eventually be blocked anyway but the fact that I have no idea on what kind of team damage they've done does bother me.

It's not bug dude.
Go make games private and start game.
It's say you are online and not in game.
You hide for everyone also when u playing it's very stupid...

Steam only need hide recent activity about how u much play in last 2 weeks.
No faking games and hours in games.
I'ts total fail for everyone.

It's a new EU law, doesn't matter if you agree with it or not, they have to abide by it. Extra privacy options don't really bother me, if people want to use them that's their choice but don't ever protect a griefer or bring in measures to deal with them today, as it stands they are free to do what they want without any action being taken and now they have the added bonus of not being able to be spotted easily, that I don't like.

Blame the companies who made such legislation necessary by selling or "accidentally leaking" information about their users to third parties for whatever reason, be it advertising or trying to get people to vote a certain way.

Now the EU decided that the users themselves should get to decide what they want to show to others and what they don't want to show to others; the directive has been passed, and it will be effective on May 25th. Valve chose to adapt to it the way they did - at some point this will blow over, and be adjusted if necessary.

All I know is I play games and I enjoy them, anyone that's a possible problem to that enjoyment should be removed.

One, poor choice of words. Two, this isn't about you.

I get it - nobody likes to play with people who spoil the fun for others on purpose. But the reason for the recent change is new legislation in the EU, and not abiding by it, could see a company fined by up to 4% of their global turnover (or 20 million €, whichever is higher).

So yeah, nobody's leaving anything to chance. We're talking real strict laws here, and very probably a step that is going to redefine the landscape of the internet significantly.

Basically, if a few griefers have the ability to hide, that's insignificant compared to being faced with the consequences of the user information ending in hands of those who should not possess it without the user's consent.

the privacy functions are a joke anyway, 14+ years and not even the bare minimum and when they finally do something, then they implement something to merely prevent datamining for advertising on 3rd parties .. but nice that they follow eu regulations.

not being able to hide the friendslist or not to respect the privacy settings of every individual on a friendslist is also against the regulations. even dumb facebook got that right before it even was necessary.

Except the option was always there to make your profile private. They hide my games from people without even asking.

The only reason why my steam profile is private is because no one has to know about my friends list
